Are the spaces really shrinking?

I've always believed spaces in some car parks are actually smaller than in some other areas.I hate having to squeeze out of my car with the door open about a third of the way, because another driver has parked next to me whilst still being properly parked in their bay.I have seen new houses been built around our way with drive so small my car would over hang the pavement.

Hmm.
so we all go out and buy bigger cars then it's the councils fault for not expanding the roads and spaces to match.

Simple answer buy the same size car as before.

The spaces should have been bigger to start with, not cramped to make money!

Most MPVs are no longer or wider than an ordinary car (they often share the same floorpan). We mostly use our Audi A4 estate which is hardly a big car, but centred in a parking bay there's often barely enough space to get out!

Space the Final Frontier....

Who really knows if space is shrinking?

Is the universe endless?

Did the egg really come first?

:D :D

Sorry about that

Stretched in both directions.

Consider this. The current VW Polo is the same size as the original Golf.
This was a noted fact when the new polo came out.

A Mondeo is now as large as a Granada was.

Cars always grow when a new model is launced.

Just as chance would have it I pulled alongside a Golf Plus at some lights today and commented to 'err indoors that it was much bigger than all the cars around it but still only offered 5 seats.

We all like space and luxury but can't then blame councils for marking out standard size spaces.

Look how big the latest S class is compared to a w126 S class ... yet they still share the same name ....

(waits for someone to tell me that the new one is actually smaller :o )

My VW Sharan MPV is 130mm shorter and 10mm narrower than a VW Passat saloon.

Different era cars. The passat is newer and has grown, which actually emphasises my point.

Anyway I thought the Sharan was a full size people carrier, not an MPV.

What size is the new Sharan going to be?

"People Carrier" and "MPV" are normally taken to mean the same thing ("Minivan" in the US).

I don't know about the new Sharan, it will be too small for me ... I'm looking at a LWB van conversion (Transporter or Vito) instead :)

Well I've been driving my limo about rather a lot recently and I have to say, I can part the car in pretty much in any parking bay. The bays seem long enough for anything give or take a little but width wise, neither of my MB's nor my wifes little Bravo leave any room to get out without having to be very careful about banging the neighbouring car. More spaces, more punters, more money.

I did get a little stuck in the limo the other day trying to get out of the NCP in Kingston. I wont be going there again. :o

ha, ha.

Reminds me of my old boss who took his Jag into a tight multi storey and could only just get round the bends.
He decided to call it quits so drove round to the exit. It took him 45 minutes to get to the exit at which point he had an argument about paying as they wanted to charge him.:D

I would much prefer bigger spaces too!! I just don't like people parking closeby. I'm an "end space" kind of guy!!

Hi

My 210 E class fits up the side of my house an 06 Ford Galaxy wont.

The new one is smaller I think - the largest S class was the W140.

Yes, the w140 was a proper barge wasn't it ?

Is it true you had to have a RYA certificate to drive one ? ;)

And yachtmasters cert, radio licence etc.

Actually I wonder if it was bigger than the W221?

I really hate parking in multistorey car parks. Why can they not angle the spaces? All those bloody pillars as well. Nightmare! Especially in my old Beemer 5-series estate. Turning circle of an oil tanker. Required considerable shunting to get round the corners. Nice...
