Are the spaces really shrinking?

My old sergeant always used to say, "Good drivers reverse into a parking bay, and drive out, bad, or lazy drivers do the opposite."

Well, this post has shocked me. I honestly thought that the British Army was the pinnacle of fighting excellence. Now I find that John's sergeant was training them in supermarket car park defence techniques.

Hang on, this explains the Monty Python sketch "Self Defence against fresh fruit". Clearly it was inspired by John's sergeant who, having covered the dangers of the Sainsbury's car park, graduated to the hazards of the fresh fruit aisle.

"Awright, Private Glojo, what do yer do if someone lunges at you with a banana?".

I quite agree.. I cannot be bothered with the raft of P&C spaces and often park in them as has been pointed out because they are closest to the store. Parenting is getting too easy and all this gumf was never avalible when i was younger.

From what ive seen of peoples attitudes lately in retail environments , it seems to go down the path of its my god given right to be able to take my kid wherever i like , if its convienient or not.

The amount of push chairs that go into shops , get pushed around and generally make a nusiance of themselves is unreal. How about going for a walk outdoors with kids instead of in shops? Doesnt that make more sense?

Careful Fuzzer. Use of the phrase "all this gumf was never avalible when i was younger" means you have passed the first stage of the "Grumpy Old Man" examination. ;)

Pretty much what we're looking at - a Shuttle SE 174 LWB. I would prefer a Vito 120 Dualiner (more powerful, and automatic), but it would probably be over 2040 kg and therefore subject to the lower 'van' speed limits on non-motorway roads. The Shuttle remains a 'passenger vehicle' even if you take the rearmost row of seats out. Same would apply to a Vito Traveliner, but it's considerably more expensive.

Ours is the VW camper base vehicle being converted by Bilbos - lifting roof, blown air heating, sink and cooker - yes it's a full-on camper with 5 belted seats. Very simialr to VWs California but on LWB chassis and with 3 belted seats in the rear.

A similar conversion can be had on the Vito base but the rwd meant a higher floor and less volume inside, quite apart from the all too frequent moans about Vitos here and elsewhere. And this coming from someone whose (early) Sharan was so troublesome he swore he would never get another VW ...

I agree with you Fuzzer but can't help thinking what is it about X5 owners that gives them the right to park anywhere they like.
I happened to be in Sainsbury's car park to day and the parking was all very orderly apart from an X5 parked in the "loading only" spaces.

There was no one in it and it was there for a while.

So if you go to Tesco and all the spaces are now wider but only 250 of them instead of 500, will that be Ok if you can't park?

Well i don't shop at tesco's!!!

Only messing, I do understand where your coming from but it aint so much the little spaces that bother me just people parking in them poorly and being careless with there doors ect.

I parked my Sharan in a Tesco car park yesterday, carefully centred between the lines, and could barely open the doors. In the end I clambered across to the passenger side to get out as there was an empty space that side.
