ashtray removal on 2003/04 C180 coupe w203

How do you get the ashtray and springloaded flap out of the centre console on my 2003/04 W203 C180 coupe?

I dropped the screws from just above the ashtray lid for the front paneling down into the mechanism for the ashtray lid when i was taking the fron panel off to install my new stereo. Now it doesnt close at all and only opens a little bit - enough to get to coinage or anything sitting in the tray but looks daft open all the time lol.
