there is a amber triangle thats lights up on the center of the dash at various times of a drive sometimes in the exact spot of road take your foot of the gas revs and speed drop then its ok for a while, also if you toggle the asr button on then off its ok , on motorway driving higher speeds its on then off.. any help would be grateful thanks.

I don't mean to be rude but what you have written does not make much sense.

When the amber light flashes the asr system cuts in reducing the power and cuts out the throttle for a small period of time until the wheels regain grip and then the light will stop flashing.

So basicly when the rear wheels are loosing grip the amber light will flash and the system will try and stop the wheels from spinning.

Pushing the button willturn off the asr and the triangle will illuminate to indicate this

so how can i remedy this problem ?

'asr' stands for acceleration slip reduction. The car detects when the rear wheels lose grip due to an overenthusiastic right foot and reduces the power so the rear wheels can regain traction. When the system is actively operating the triangle will flash on and off. The 'asr' switch on the dashboard can switch this system off in which case the triangle should be permanently illuminated. For example, you might want to do this if the rear wheels get stuck in the mud and you are making various efforts to get the car out. If your light comes on too much, you should either have a look at your tires or control your right foot better for the driving conditions being experienced.

A heavy foot or extremely slippery surfaces are indeed the most common causes for it.

My father's previous CL600 (2000) also developped the intermitted yellow triagle flashes along with temporary power loss, especially on motorways.

At the dealer they have tried to diagnose it and in the end they replaced 2 expensive electronic parts (don't ask me which). About 6 months later the problem reoccured and they still didn't find what was causing it. In the end a German Mercedes technician came over. He found out that a tiny bit of oil was slipping into an electric sensor wire which resulted in wrong signals to the car electronics. Wire was replaced (cheap) and the area cleaned up. No more problems after that.

You probably do not have the same problem, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Manual says to "adjust driving style to suit conditions".............. always makes me chuckle when im sideways with a strobe-lit dash :bannana:

Ahem, 'Crash'.....might i advise youy NEVER drive with the triangle permenantly lit up?

Haha!

It's strange....

I had the exact same problem coming off more or less every roundabout on the A303 on the way down to Cornwall the other day ;)

And around the lanes ....... don't even get me started ..... ;)

:D

Now that i think about it, on the CL600 the light might have lit up continuously instead of flashing, but intermittantly, not all the time. Didn't cause any trouble driving with it on though, only performance loss, probably because the fault wasn't severe enough to cause erratic car behavior.

Yeah, I have the same on my 300-24. I tell you, it doesn't take much to light it up, even in the dry when trying to enter fast moving traffic from a side road. I see it's advantages in the rain maybe, but quite frustrating under normal driving conditions. I can't turn mine off at all, but I can turn it on permernantly by operating the Snow-Chain option switch, but then it switches off automatically over 40kph. and switch back on below 40kph. Well, that's what the manual says.... ;)

I wonder if crash is actually switching on this function, hence going on and off on the motorway, speeding-up, slowing-down. Just a thought.

I don't know if you have the option of turning it off on older models. My 560sel had the same thing.

Ciao. :)

iff i switch the asr button the amber triangle stays on and drives fine switch off, and resets itself drives ok for a while, more worrying if hit the motorway doing 80mph the warning triangle appears but not all the time is frustrating is it safe to drive methinks not its trying to tell me something

Might be worth taking it to a reliable dealer/workshop and getting it checked out.
Other than that I wouldn't know what to suggest, sorry.

Good Luck..... ;)

While I only ever had the ESP fitted cars, where the ASR function is integrated in the wider ESP functionality, I don't think the above is normal behaviour.

On the rare occasions that my ESP warning light came on, it was for good reasons to do with road surface conditions and a lot of power being transmitted to the wheels ;)

If the system kicks in continuously, there must be a cause for it, be it a fault somewhere or tyres as flat as a snooker table :D

tyre check found there to an odd sized tyre on rear o/s as the car is new to me its an over sight so will remedy and let you know the outcome, i must never presume the tyres are the same size again just because they look rite.

Just to add, I have ASR (not ESP) on my SL500, and it very rarely kicks in.
