After some reading around i have decided to get my gearbox oil changed but just need some advice first if possible!

I have heard there is a ECU plug that needs changing at the same time, does mercedes include this in the price of the gearbox oil change or will i need to ask for it seperately? Same applies to the filter?

Is there such a thing as a gearbox service from mercedes where all relevant maintainence is undertaken?

Sholud i change the oil in the rear diff whilst im at it or is this not as important?

Can the work be done by an independant garage or is it true only MB oil should be used?

The gearbox is a 5 speed auto with 57,000 miles on it.

Cheers

Anyone can do the ATF but they need a dipstick.

ECU plug??? Maybe you mean the tamper evident seal on the dipstick tube cap, this isn't necessary.

Ensure you change the sump gasket and drain plug seal and that the gearbox is HOT when measuring the level.

Ive heard there is a gearbox ecu blug which is changed as it can leak oil where it joinns the gearbox, and run up into the ecu?

yes, my electrical plug was leaking at the time of the last service and was replaced after a couple of weeks on back order. Apparently the replacement was an improved design. My RAC Gold covered a lot of the cost. Search for other threads on this, along with horror stories if oil find its way up the wires into the ECU.

But it only needs changing if it's a problem.
