Help! I was trying to add a CD autochanger to my audio 10 radio cassette head unit with no luck. It just kept saying NO CD so I gave up after a while.
Now the radio cuts out after about 20 seconds and the display say's PROD.
Does this mean I need a code to unlock it? If so, where can I get the code and how do I enter it? Any help greatly appreciated.

It could be that you have disconnected the 'wake up' wire from the Audio 10 (blue / black stripe) thats why the radio keeps switching off and unless you have this same cable connected to the cd changer the head unit will not be able to see the CD unit.

Sadly not that simple. I found this on the internet which would suggest that my attempt to plug in the autochanger has triggered something:

Theft protection is handled by a unit identifier signal over the CANBUS with the vehicle (the devices have no code). This identifier is checked at each operation of the unit. If this identifier is missing, then the radio goes into the PROD lockout mode and can no longer be operated.

Any ideas how to get around this?

I have the AUDIO 10 head unit for my A Class.

Don't think the A Class uses CANBUS for the radio just a simple ISO plug on the rear.
The AUDIO 10 did require a four digit code to be entered when first connected and powered up. Code supplied on a credit card with the radio unit.

PROD (not mentioned in my supplied user manual) is a mystery to me though not a good sign... Hope you find a fix.

I had hopped to add a CD changer to the car one day.
Might change my mind now !

If your radio is the original fit the dealer will be able to match the code to the VIN.

Looks like another case of a little knowledge is dangerous!

I have been in touch with the local dealer and they were fairly helpful.

They confirmed that W203's do not have codes (not surprising as I am sure no stereo theif is patient enough to remove one!) and that my adding a CD changer has caused the problem. The technician says its something with the D2B wake up which topdown (ooops!) suggested in the first place.

He says that I need to take two wires out of the original connecter and then do something else but he could not remember off the top of his head.

Does anyone know which two wires from which connector should be pulled and what they should be replaced with?

On the CD changer loom there is a connector block with about 10 pins and two blue wires going to it which I think must be the wake up thingy and a small two pin connector with two brown wires any ideas what they are for?

You need to integrate the CD Changer loom into your existing wiring. Suggest you find an auto electrician.
