Audio 10 radio casette

I think on a W210 E-Class it's the standard square-cornered Audio 10 unit. If so I don't think you need to remove any trim.

You will need the 'keys' that are used to secure the unit in position. These are available from your dealer for a pound or so.

If it's completely kaput it might not be the end of the world. You should be able to pick up a replacement fairly cheaply as they're often removed and replaced with a CD player. Not much of a market for cassette players these days, so good news if you're looking for one. ;)

Thanks! I don't have the manual for the Audio 10 but I gather you have to make sure you put the keys in the right way or they get stuck. Is this true? Does the manual tell you how to do it?

Don't think the manual tells you but it's very easy.
Do you have some keys now?

If you look closely on each key you'll see either the letter 'L' or 'R'

With the 'L' facing upwards, insert that key in the LEFT hand slot. With the 'R' facing upwards on the other key, insert that into the RIGHT hand slot.

Just push each key until you hear/feel a click, then pull evenly on both sides. Be carful though. The keys are a bit flimsey and can bend easily so remove them once the unit is out (you don't need them to re-insert the unit).
To remove the keys, just push down on the springed mechanism either side of the radio, and pull the key out whilst doing so.

Thanks - I've just spoken to the MB dealer and they've quoted me £21 for 2 keys and the audio 10 manual! I don't think I need the manual as you have very kindly told me what to do, but could anyone lend me the keys and I can post them back???? (or where else would I get them). Thanks again.

Thank you very much! Let me try with the keys to see if I can get ours going, if not I will come back to you! Many thanks, LucyH

Keys in the post to you.

Thank you.

I had a thought, if I take the radio out will this mess up the code? We bought the car from a secondhand (not MB) dealer last year so I probably have no idea what the code is. Will I need it to get it going again???

Probably, yes. Just dont disconnect the power from it unless you have the code.

If you dont have the code then your local MB dealer should be able to get it for you but you may have to prove ownership of the vehicle.

I posted about maybe getting a replacement Becker head unit. Well today I received the latest Becker newsletter. I kid you not, this was the headline story:

Valentine's day is just around the corner!

Want to give your sweetheart something special for Valentine's day? Flowers or candy seem a bit too boring?

Surprise someone with a new Becker mobile navigation system!

Now you can start getting ready for the next romantic weekend!

They're not wrong. Mrs D would be surprised at receiving one of those. I would also be homeless and single in no time at all!! :D

Hi! I have now managed to remove the audio 10, have played around with the wires and pulled out the power lead and put back in as someone suggested.

It's still not working, so I think it must be kaput!

Could I take you up on your offer of your audio 10, manual and code please?

Thanks

LucyH

Yes, there is, a 10A - I suppose I could try changing that but I tried to get it out earlier and found it very hard.

Will have another go.

Thanks!

IT WORKS!!!!!!!! Thank you so much everyone for helping me with this! It was the fuse in the audio10 unit itself! What a great bunch you are!

If a fuse goes in future, where is best to buy them from?

A million thanks again to everyone who took time to help me out.
