I know, that old chestnut, but I'm struggling to find answers and could do with some info.
I am still undecided about what to do with the audio system. It's currently standard, but I have a complete Bose upgrade with iPod interface and DAB, ready to go in. Trouble is, the actual interface provided by the Comand head unit (NTG1) is basically crap, but improving it requires complete replacement of most of the MB stuff.
There are of course many after market double DIN units that could be used, some even include a suitable bezel (but they can be bought in any case), however, there is then the problem of interfacing the new head unit with the MOST fibre optic bus, which as far as I can see is impossible. So the amp would need replacing too which for me means I couldn't use the Bose unit I have awaiting fitment. I think. Anyone else able to correct me on any of this?
Then there's the speakers. If I'm not installing the Bose units, what's the alternative? Loads of course, but to figure what's required, you need to know what needs to be replaced and at this point in time, I have no idea what is the full complement of speakers in my SL. I know that sounds lame, but it's always been in my mind to upgrade from the stock system and hence haven't paid much attention to it. In any case, hearing sound from a particular location doesn't much help knowing what is actually making the sound.
So, first of all, can anyone tell me categorically what speakers exist in an '07 R230 with STOCK audio?
How many speakers in the doors? There's a 6.5" and a 3" - I think. Any tweeter?
Any speaker in the dash?
What speakers are in the rear? Where? What size?
Is there a sub at all, or is that ONLY with the Bose system?
How many channels does the Bose amp output?
To where?
Are there passive crossovers used?
Where are they?
Just trying to get a handle on what's there and so what I would need to upgrade and especially what wiring exists. E.g. can I use existing speaker wires, for which I need to know about crossovers etc. So any help on all the above would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
