- 12, daily driver a hotted up Octavia 1.9tdi (custom injectors, ARB, poly bushes, cupra wheels etc)
Hi all,
Can anyone point me to some information on merc auto boxes in the 90's? I drove a couple of w124's that were awful, started off gutless in 2nd and didn't seem to lock up in any gear - had that churning oil sensation. It was the only reason I bought a Volvo 960 24v actually, the volvo engine + box. Driving wise, I preferred the Merc. But the Volvo lept off line with a fantastic engine and locked up in the gears, great cruising with a manual box feel (& economy)
I'm interested in the 2.9tdi engine and a lock-up 4 or 5 speed auto box, quite possibly as a transplant into a w124 (or possibly another vehicle altogether).
Would love some info on the types of boxes available as the chances of getting a broken sprinter auto is pretty slim.
Always fancied the e290 tdi but not a UK model! If the sprinter is anything to go by, very economic and powerful.
Any web sites with a good detailed description of the boxes & control systems would be good.
Greg.
