Tanks
My car: w202 C220 CDI 1999

I have the same box - I think it is 7.2l - but check[do a search - loads of 5 speed gear box threads on here] - and there are members who are a lot more knowledgable than I, if your search is not helpful.

Around 7 litres only if the box is completely drained including the converter.

The level must be checked with a dipstick at an atf temperature of 80 degrees C even if you know how much should go in.

The dipstick is available from a dealer. Its about £22.

Remember, you probably can't drain the torque converter anyway as it doesn't have a drain plug.

I had my "powerflushed" they reckon 98% of the old fluid is removed from the TC using this method..

I like the sound of that.

My car had it's first transmission oil change last year at 170,000 miles

I went to an indy and they put 4.5 litres of non-Mercedes oil in which was about £4 per litre

Seems to be running okay though (touch wood) :D

While draining the auto box would'nt barring the engine over turn the torque converter releasing some old oil?

Im sure this works the oil goes through the pump then out of the box.
