OK so three days ago i am coming from work at nite, small stone comes from no-were and hit my screen. i end up with a chip, thats fyne. next morning i try to clear my screen with the heater and , chip turn into a 20 cm crack. damn. call insurance in the afternoon and was told to ring AUTOGLASS appointed fitter for AVIVA. i then med a request for OEM glass, AUTOGLASS immediately offers such cheap glass instead which they said can be fitted in less than an hour at work. i turn them down straight away and insisted on OEM, and the advisor says I have to call AVIVA and get authorisation first and then let them know the outcome. i call insurance and the guy from AVIVA goes crazy coz he doesnt understand why they kip referring clients bek to them wen the agreement they have is to fit OEM for cars like MERCEDES, BMW, AUDI, VW ETC. he puts me on hold whilst he talks to AUTOGLASS, i culd hear part of the conversation and he was not impressed. he says they promise to call me in 5. i put my fone down and got a call straight away from AUTOGLASS apologising for the misunderstanding and now offering the EOM for my car. so i booked it for next saturday as i want to inspect the job myself. i have heard people complin abt auto lights, auto wipers not working if windscreen is not fitted properly.

so thats my story guys...........lets wait for next sat. i wil kip u posted.later

Which depot are you going to? I think the experience can differ greatly depending on where you go.

Hi, had autoglass do my last car, w210 estate, nice guy, turned up on time and did excellent unrushed job. He checked auto wipers etc before leaving. Very professional work and of course all is guarrenteed.

I had a good experience with Auto glass as well. I guess it is all down to the fitter you get...

After a windscreen replacement, hood warning light/alarm kept going off even though the hood wasn't down. Fitter said they aren't liable and it's down to electrics and might need a reset, even though everything was ok before the fitting. Assumed it was OEM, how do I differentiate?

Agree with markjay - but I guess I got the bad one!

Had a new windscreen fitted by Autoglass last May and then in Jan this year had a puddle of water in the driver's footwell. Turned out that the windscreen had not bonded properly on the drivers side! The tw@t that fitted the windscreen also managed to leave some of the glue on the bonnet and front wing which took ages to clay off!

Autoglass were ok eventually and refitted the windscreen -although had to argue to get them to come back out (they said it would not leak after such a long time!) and now leak sorted. However based on the first fitter I had, I would reccommend you keep any eye on the fitting process and give it a good leak test once bonding has set.

National Windscreens did mine on Friday, non-MB glass (OE supplier) instead. Looks ok but auto-wipers don't work any more - just permanent on for the intermittent/auto position

Think this can be fixed with STAR.

Shude,

I seem to remember reading somewhere , that the non OEM windscreens don't allow the sensor to 'see' properly through it , hence why the auto wipe doesn't work.

Some companies also neglect to refit the sensor properly either , worth checking that first.

If the screen is at fault , you will need a new one.

On his check-sheet he's ticked nothing! I will call them tomorrow and ask some questions.

Autoglass twice failed to clip my RLS back in properly and yet told me they'd tested it and it was OK.

I had mine replaced, non OEM screen, but it is made by Pilkington and I was told that it was identical to the OEM, just without the MB logo. Anyway, everything works as it should, wipers, lights etc.

After a few months though, it has a few stone chips again, and a small crack has appeared from the latest stone to hit. My works van has had 4 new windscreens in the last couple of years due to the state of UK roads.

Technically the rain sensor needs to be adapted to a new windscreen (any new windscreen) using Star Diagnosis.
When you do it, Star wants to know one of the numbers that is printed on the windscreen - presumably for different coloured windscreens. (although on some models you only get 1 option) .

[Edit, also A/B/SLK class and probably others (those with Gel between the sensor and windscreen), the RLS needs to be replaced as the Gel gets left on the old windscreen and initial startup then needs to be done using Star Diagnosis]

AutoWindscreens went bust, AuoGlass is still going...

ok, so autoglass was meant to turn up tomorrow, to fit my glass. instead they call me saying my insurance has turned down the approval to fit an EOM screen. funny thing is my insurance approved it last saturday. so now they put me on hold for abt 5 min, then the guy comes back and says, it was their mistake, it was approved and unfortunately they had not ordered the glass, now i have to wait for another week......sad sad sad

ok guys windscreen just bn fitted, looks alright, nid to give it a fews hours to dry up and wil let u know later

I had Autoglass replace my screen a few months back, the guy did an excellent job, though I was watching the whole time, more out of interest to see how bits come apart :)
