Auto glass windscreen replacement

ok people, teh windscreen is fyne, like artyman. i was watching the guy change it. did a great, all is working. thnaks

Just to update; My rain sensor seems to be working fine now. Either it's just needed some time to "adapt" to the new screen or the various resets carried out during a service last week (requested by me) have taken effect.

My experience with Autoglass for my S320. Front & rear ordered they turned up with front screen only. During inspection noticed the replacement is wrong as it's solar and not the green tint. Not a problem new screens ordered for (Wednesday) to car spec and will be Pilkington without the Merc badge print. I find myself quite lucky, he's the senior technician for the area and mainly works on Mercedes including for the local dealership in Chester... :)

Shude, according to the technician if the screen is not identical tint colour wise then the sensors need recalibrating to adapt to the screen.

The new screen and old screen *looked* the same but were different manufacturers. Rain sensor is working now so it must have worked out the differences on its own!

A couple of years ago, thanks to Autobahn road works, I had to get a cracked windscreen replaced on my SLK32 when I got home.

Booking Autoglass was no problem and I left the car at their depot. Now, my car has an internal cellphone antenna attached to the glass and Autoglass had said that they would refit anything as required....

When I went back to collect the car, the OEM windscreen had been fitted OK, but the antenna was in the wrong place and was drooping down; also there were grubby handprints all over the inside of the windscreen.

I relocated the antenna myself, but the glue they'd used looked awful through the top of the windscreen - splodges of thick grey/black glue.

Basically a shoddy job performed with inadequate care. Quite why the idle slob couldn't have cleaned the glass after fitting it, given that they insist that customers wait an hour for the glue to bond, I do not know.

I was not impressed. Now that they have a virtual monopoly, I can't see their standards improving much.....

Another option , which insurers cannot refuse , is to insist on your car going into the MB dealership for this work .

I have done this in the past and paid only the £50 excess . The dealership ( Western Automobile Co - now MB Edinburgh ) handled everything , including dealing with insurance and I got a proper 'Sekurit' windscreen , identical to the original .
