I have a 1997 c220 diesel which comes without an auto trans fluid dipstick. Does anyone know how to make a dipstick (measurements etc.) or do I really have to buy a merc dipstick.

funny that i had just made one yesterday, but even after it hits what seems is the bottom, im still getting no reading! could my electrical plug leak really have drained that much oil?

Wiggle it a bit mate, i found the same ....
There appears to be a ridge just off the bottom of the sump that it catches on . I dipped mine and thought ' My God , there's no oil in it !! '
Then wiggled it a bit and it went down another 5 cm .
