Just thought I'd post to see if anyone has any thoughts on this. Just placed a deposit on a new car and they've tried their usual upsell tactic of paint & upholstery protection.

I've told them not to bother, but the dealer is offering an AutoGlym protection for the interior & exterior. I believe it's something like this (although not from this vendor):

National car valet service - the autoglym lifeshine solution includes autoglym lifeshine

They state that it will come with £100 of AutoGlym product and theat they (AutolGlym) also gurantee that their system once applied will protect the leather interior from staining / dye transfer (e.g. from jeans etc). They state that if it does become marked and it can't be removed with a wet cloth then they will repair / rectify.

I'm pretty cynical & sceptical - anyone come across this or had it done? The car I'm buying (more info later) has a very light interior...

Cheers

I have a lifeshine kit in the garage - dealers pay about £15 for them. The products are ok is applied properly.

I wouldnt bother, use a proper detailer and carry out a new car prep with ceramic coating if you wont long lasting protection.

If you hands on then go to A world for detailers... - do it your self? Its basic stuff really in regards to prepping a new car.

If you need any help PM me, i'm a keen detailer and i can point you in the right directon.

You'll always get 2 sides to this. 1st thing is that dealers pay alot more than £15 for them. If the gentleman above can get Genuine complete kits for that, I'd like to buy them.
There are products out there that are better, but that will always be the case as technology improves.
In my opinion it all boils down to what you are being charged for it.
the Lifeshine kit is pretty good. I would say that any horror story you hear is simply down to poor application. Getting your car Lifeshined at a dealer whose valeters have time restrictions will be totally different to getting it applied from a valeter/detailer whose business relies on his/her reputation.
If done properly, you would get £100 of decent products, your car cleaned, clayed, if necessary paintwork machine polished, paintwork protected, side and rear glass cleaned and sealed, carpets and seats cleaned and sealed. without the products you get, that can be at least £150/£200 worth of work.
This can and does take us a day depending on the condition of the car.

Then, if you ever have to make a claim on your lifetime warranty, the least that would happen is the products would be re-applied after whatever the problem/stains etc has been resolved.
Again, on the other you will always hear about someone's aunties next door neighour's brother's friend having problems with claiming against the warranty. There's always someone somewhere who has heard something. . .
Just like I know of someone who had new seat covers.

Do your research. Ring Autoglym and speak to them, then speak to valeters and detailers in your area and then make your choice with whatever you feel is right. Just remember that whatever you have applied to your car, it will still need to be maintained, regardless of what anyone promises you.

And most importantly, good luck with the new car. :thumb:

I know for a fact at least one major motor group in the UK pays that price for them.

A lot of large retailers offer this I wonder why ?----£15 kit --2 x "valeters" on lowest pay rates =£15 = £30 cost and £70 profit -let youre own common sense decide?

To be fair the trade price of application with the kit at that particular group was £60. That said they charged £250 for the complete interior and exterior application.

No disrespect intended, so I hope this doen't cause offence, but that's hard to believe. I wish I was paying that! But I suppose if you're buying large enough quantities, anything's possible (although I'm still struggling to get my head round how any manufacturer could produce the customer bag, the products in the bag and then the PDi kit and still make a profit for just £15)

Even Paying 30% off the trade price, the customer pack and PDi kits costs ALOT more. In fact, just buying the external Lifeshine kit (with complete customer pack) costs us alot more.
There are people who sell the PDi packs on there own, but there is always a chance that the kits might not be genuine.

Just edited after reading the above post - we pay more than £60, but I suppose that's where quantity would come in.

The price was for the trade Lifeshine PDI kit - no customer-facing products.

Not a fan of lifeshine or such products...

No such thing as a lifetime protection its just a very, very expensive wash and wax, something one can do oneself. A friend in the motor trade also confirmed its all hype and baloney
