Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how difficult it is to fit a automatic rear view dimmer, i have a conventinal manual flip one with a garage opener built into the base.
Since i have power going to the mirror for the opener how hard is it to get the unit to come apart, and do i just swap the mirrors and hook up the power?

I have a 320 CLK CAB 2003 209 any help would be great.

Thanks,
BJAZZZ

The dimming RVM is a totally different unit, the fitting is very easy though: pull the old one off and unplug it, then reverse for the new one.

Does the 209 cab mirror mount to the ceiling or the windscreen?

Dimmer Mirror

I have the auto dimming rear view mirror on my E220, this also dims the wing mirror. You obviously won't get this facility by just fitting the interior unit.

Requires new mirror glass and some wiring.

Does anyone know the part number for an auto-dimming RVM for a new SLK (R171)? Is fitting as simple as on a C/CLK?

I have no catalogue for the R171, and the accessories brochure doesn't mention the RVM.

Rvm

Hi Shude,

The mirror on the CLK cab is mounted to the Windscreen not the roof.
What do you think is it easy enough to pull the unit apart?

Thanks BJAZZZ

like shude said its a totally different unit, so pulling it apart wont help!

Awful. I always thought that the ceiling-mounted RVM design was one of the best things MB ever did. *Sigh*

The two housings are quite different! Pulling apart is not recommended.

OK here we go

I managed to buy a self dimmer RVM on ebayer for £10.00 (BARGIN) i puilled my unit apart using a trusty flat head plus props and found two wires going down to the gararge opener BLUE and BROWN. On the self dimming unit there are three wires RED BLUE and BROWN. As stated earlier the two housings are different with the help of a Stanley knife a couple of different head drills i have got the garage unit to fit quite snug into the self dimmer unit. Two main questions if anybody can help.

1) How do you remove the unit from the windscren to access the feed cables or do i work with the power i have ther already.

2) If i do have to work with what is there i would assume that all the cable would need to be connected, if that is the case i think i may be snooked.

Any help would be great whilst i try to stick my mangled fingers back together.

Thanks,

BJAZZZ.
