I want to upgrade the speakers in my w210 to a set of 3 way seperates. The built in amp on the COMAND will simply not do.

As far as I know, the unit does not have an AUX out, only an AUX in. So is the only way round to get a speaker to line converter and take the feed from the speaker outputs?

Just need someone to confirm.

Cheers

Yes, at least I'm not aware of any after market device that would give AUX out from the fibre. What MY was this W210 and does it have sound system amp behind the fibre? Sound system amplifiers typically have more than four speaker lines, it may not be straightforward even to use the speaker wires (I'm not sure but I would assume bass signal missing from the doors speaker wires). A W210 might actually have copper wire connection from the HU to the Sound amplifier, then it would be easy to use a speaker to line converter as you mentioned.

Does COMAND have an amp built in to the head unit? If it does I'd be tempted to modify the unit to provide front & rear outs (and subwoofer out if there is one) and use that to feed external amps

Assuming there's rear panel space for a set of phono sockets, or somewhere you can take outputs on flying leads, I think that'd be the neatest solution

The comand 2.0 has a bult in amp, if your lucky enough to have BOSE then you will have the additional amp.

I see your point Nick, Ill check to see if its simple enough to get the feed before the mosfets.
