Hi,

I noticed that a few members on the forum have upgraded to avantgarde style grilles on their C-Class's - can anyone let me know how expensive and difficult this is to do?

Thanks,

L.

Installation is basically easy.

The hard part is deciding who to buy it from.

OEM MB part is about £170. It's made from a W210 avantgarde grill, comes with instructions and fitting kit and slips easily into the frame. Perfect quality part. B6 688 01 27

Aftermarket items are £50-100. Some can be tricky to fit into the frame but others easy, parts included very much depends on supplier (can re-use most of the original grill insert screws etc), some are made from W140 S600 grill, some W210 avantgarde and some are scratch-built items. Some use replica grills as a basis and can be really poor in quality.

What do you have on yours? (It's very nice BTW).

Mine is an OEM grill, bought in September 2001.

I think I am a minority in owning the oem grill but at the time I bought it there was little option. Fellow member Koolvin bought a grill for his car about a year before me I think, that was from Lorinser and it was about £250!

I think most people have aftermarket grills bought from ebay etc.

Mine was from ebay by a german seller matrix.de cost around £40 incl shipping. Fit was ok with a bit of pushing.

Need a new one now as a stone has chipped part of the chrome off one the vanes.

Exactly.

The oem chrome strips are £2 each by themselves! From MB it would be £22 just for the chrome on the grill, before you talk about any other parts! ;)

Mine has survived 80k miles in 4 years and is undamaged (although it has some impressive moths stuck in it at the moment ;) )

yeah yeah ya smug so and so :p

Shude, I assume the vanes on the OEM grille are chromed metal?

The one I have is plastic :(

Would I be able to order an OEM grille from a main dealer? You wouldn't happen to have the part number?

Cheers,

Laz

Hi Lazerus, mine is OEM as well. I bought a cheap one, hated it and ended up buying a proper one. What is it they say buy cheap , buy twice!

Brabus Kent (mercedes servicing agent therefore proper parts!) had a proper Grill in their display cabinet recently. I dont know if its still there but at least worth a check on 01634 388887. HTH

I just recieved a new one from Matrixcar (aka ebay.de - Powerstyling).
Arrived within 48 hrs from Germany £35 inc del.

Fitted it the day it arrived with a bit of shove and push, but looks mint now. Just waiting to post some pics of my new car.

They are chromed metal with a slot in them so they slide onto the grill insert. The metal strips are available in different lengths and can be ordered separately from the stealership :)

I will join you on this one ;) ,Mine is OEM as well and I bought it from bluestar a couple of years ago for £125

I had to cut mine to fit, not recommended!

Looks OK fitted though.

Just got an email from a friend of mine who works at DCUK, I asked him to order me an OEM item (as he gets 10% discount), and it's arrived. Planning on fitting it over the weekend, and (weather permitting) giving the car a decent polish and taking some photos (which I'll post).

I've also ordered a set of PIAA bulbs to upgrade the main (dip) beam.

Shiny pedals next methinks :)

Cheers,

Laz
