Hello fellow Merc fans

We have just taken a delivery of our new car and wondered if any1 might know which way to go about upgrading to bluetooth on a B CDI SE model, so that we can pair our mobile phones allowing us to talk handsfree?

The Merc salesperson told us to 'look on the net' as apparently it would cost an arm and a leg if we have it done with them....any1 got any ideas about this at all? Thanks, Graham

Hi and welcome

Are you looking for an Mercedes solution or an aftermarket 3rd party one?

If the former have a word with Comand Online Ltd

If aftermarket parrot seem to have a good reputation..

Does your car have Audio 20? The latest Audio 20 units have built in bluetooth on the A-Class, check if it is the case in the B-Class.

If it doesnt have built in bluetooth does your car have telephone pre-wire? If so all you need is a bluetooth cradle. I would recommend the Viseeo MB-2. Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes Phone/Bluetooth :: Cradles & Bluetooth Adapters

Thank you NPUK - ours doesn't have Audio 20 but I believe it does have telephone pre-wire....(it has tel. dialing buttons etc where the stereo is) which by your reply would mean that all we'd need would be the bluetooth cradle you recommended....what would the Mercedes's own equivalent be of the Viseeo unit? Thanks

The Mercedes HPF or SAP cradles are also on the same link, however you need need one.

Looking at the MB B-Class pdf price list page 10 your car will have come with Audio 20 as standard and like the A-Class it now has bluetooth built into the headunit.

There will be an option to pair a bluetooth phone on the headunit. Your stereo userguide will have the instructions on how to do this.

Or go to the link below and have a look at the communications section on the interactive owners guide. Select the phone you have and it will tell you how to pair the phone.

Hi B180 & welcome glad to hear there are some more B class owners out there. Can't help you on this particular problem as mine is not bluetooth equiped but am pretty au fait on other B class issues having had 2 over the past 4 years. Good luck with your new motor.

Thank you KDBCOM - we've only had the car for a few days and so far it drives like a dream but if anything comes up I'am sure I'll be back for advise - thank you!

@NPUK - I have checked it out and no, the car doesn't seem to have built it bluetooth...we bought the car over the phone without having driven it or let alone sat in it first, so didn't check if it had the built it bluetooth, we just assumed it did
I suppose I'll have to take it down to our local MB dealer for advise on this one - thanks again :)

What year reg is the car? As you said in the first post new car I assumed it was a brand new car.

If it is a second hand b-class (pre MY2009 I think) with the older audio 20 then the headunit wont have built in bluetooth. If it has phone pre-wire the connection is in the armrest drawer.

It will be cheaper to just change the headunit for the newer audio 20 with bluetooth than to buy a cradle. It will be a straight swap.

One for sale here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-AUDI...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4aa025dbb8

Sorry for the confusion, (our 'new' car) is a late 2007 model (57 plate)...thats interesting what you suggested, will have a look at it now, thank you!!

It look like this is what we'll need NPUK, as this one has the TEL button on the left, whereas ours one doesn't....how does one fit this unit?

You're a superstar!! Thank you so very much for your help :-)))

B180 yours must a couple of months newer than mine then, I presume you have the Aux in socket inside the glove compartment which is ideal for your MP3 or Iplayer.

Its Sep 07 (manual)...haven't checked the glove compartment thoroughly yet  I believe I saw some CD holders in there....the only thing I am finding just a bit annoying so far is the reverse gear, I suppose having driven an auto b4 it will take some time getting use to it....still liking the car nevertheless. How long have you had yours? any probs?

Forgot to ask did you check if your car does have the phone pre-wire - connector is in the armrest drawer, see picture. If it doesnt I think you need the bluetooth antenna and microphone too (shown on the link below). Email Comand Online to check or Alfie / Richard may reply and confirm if they see this thread.

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: Current W169 A, W245 B, Sprinter, Vito, Viano

No connector NPUK, just an empty drawer :(

Ok so it has no phone pre wire so unless you want an aftermarket solution your best option is the upgrade to the newer Audio 20 unit with bluetooth or even the Comand NTG2.5 if you wanted sat nav too.

I think the ebay link you send me earlier for the Audio 20 is probably what we'll go for (would we still need the antena and mic?) Starting bid is £50..but do you know what these units roughly go for? Also would you know the rough cost for the NTG2.5? As for installation, we're in Sussex, so will probably take it to our local MB dealer and expect to be charged half hour to an hour labour rate...something like that.

B180 My first B was an ex demo probably one of the first in the country it was fully loaded but had all sorts of problems with it, a real friday afternoon job. However the B suited my needs so I traded it in for a new 200 CDI in July 07 so far, touch wood, this on is more like I expected a M/B to be. Things to watch rear screen washer tubes can come off, electric windows can go out of sync but not so far on the new B. Tyre wear can be a bit heavy but that probably depends on how you drive, though I have had a couple of punctures, make sure you can get your wheels off as this can be a problem (certainly with the 10 spoke 17" ones) but the 5 spoke ones seem better. Main dealer servicing seems a bit pricey but I expect that is common with all Mercs.

Keith

Re above dealers charge I think they mentioned once that electrical work was about £120 per hour labour charge.
