My car is a 2006 B-Class B200 Cdi Automatic.

I have had the car for 4 years and the air con has always worked well, however recently my air con is not working.

1. It has been refilled with gas.
2. The blower fan works perfectly well in all speeds.
3. Only when you hit the air con button (red light on) there is a hissing / whirring noise from somewhere behind the dash and this noise is transmitted through the vents.
It sounds like the fan but the confusing thing is, the noise is only present when the air con is on.
4. If I turn the air con off (red light off) the noise remains and doesn't stop.
5. If I then turn the fan off and then back on (a/c off) the noise has gone, as if its been reset.
6. The a/c is never cold through any of these procedures.
Any ideas, anyone??

The air con is on when the red light is lit. The noises you hear when the red light is on is probably the compressor working.

It may well be you may have a leak which is why it needed regassing. I recently had a new condenser fitted after that had a leak. The system needs to be checked over.
