Backlight Illumination

couple of questions if I may

ive just fitted a duchalet caret console, and i noticed that on my old console next to where the speedo cable goes was a kinda sensor which just slides in, this was not on the replacement console, so i removed the plastic bit and fitted this sensor does anyone know what it is.

main question is: after fitting the new console the fan control and electric window illumination lights around the gear lever dont work, but the rest of backlights do? checked fuses in engine bay, noticed that a red one was blown, replaced this but made no difference and bulbs are also ok, all buttons work, can anyone shed any light on my problem.

IIRC illumination comes from just one wire for all functions, therefore one fuse for all (this is different for more modern vehicles, facelift W202 is the same except for the aircon dials which are illuminated by instruction from canbus ).

How are your buttons wired up on the new console?

when i say console i ment instrument cluster, all wiring is the same, car i have is 190e, cluster from a 190e the only thing that was different was on old clsuter the extra sensor next to speedo cable, which i transfered, but have no idea what it is. and as i said found a blown fuse in main fusbox, but replacing this made no difference! the dimming conrol on cluster works aswell, guess ill try old cluster at weekend to see if its a feed

If all the dash illumination is dimmed by using the instrument cluster buttons then you can bet it's a fault in the cluster.

well tried re-fitting old cluster, no difference im guessing that with the blown fuse i probably knocked a wire which shorted out (not much space to get hand behind cluster) and after replacing the wire is still prob loose and I just cant track it down , bugger another auto elec bill

Well big thanks goes to Lastminute with his insight Iv'e rectified the problem phew all sorted, Now what else can i kill

oh and that extra sensor is for cruise control, pity car dosent have the rest of the bits fitted its a shame isnt it IAN!

Did you manage to correct the milliage on the new cluster ? also would it be possible to see any pictures perhaps before and after if you took some

Ive left the milage as it it, its closer to what the engine has done anyway. ill do some picks soon, there are some of before in gallery that I.Walker did
