My C200 wouldent start yestoday morning, got garage out to jump it - Fine

They told me a needed a new battery. @ 100AH

Had battery replaced today at my tyre place, looked in the boot theres a 88AH battery,
So i talked to the lads they told me this is the right battey for the car, - fine i said ill see how it goes.

down the road i noticed the abs light was on
and the asr/Bas light was on. ( I had no controll over the ASR via the switch)

Whats going on :S :S :S

Try turning the ignition on, then going full lock each way with the steering wheel.

This 'fault' is supposed to happen when you disconnect / reconnect the battery, I think it's something to do with the steering position sensor.

My 99 C200 has a 100AH battery - I think one of the option codes on my car is a High Capacity Battery, when mine goes I'll be looking for a 100AH replacement, even if it means going the dealer.

Seconded, mine has a 100AH battery. I'd be surprised to hear that the capacity of your new battery is the cause of this problem.

Hope you get it sorted,

Will

Try turning steering to extreme lock left & right and do it 3 times

it will re set the wps try it lock to lock with ing on not off

Ok , Took car to Stealership,

They hooked it up to the clever computer, and i have a fault with a speed sensor on one of the wheels part - £60 plus labour :( :( :(

Does this sound about right ???

I had the same problem with the ASR lights on etc. Turned wheen three times each way lock to lock, drive for about 25 miles and everything returned to normal.

tried that :(

On the print out from there PC,
It says speed sensor on frount right in inplusiblee :S

And apperently thats what causing fault :S

any one had that issue b4, or do they realy just not know what there talking about

could be coinsidence,or an old fault that hasn't been erased, was the fault stored or current?
did they try and erase it?
normally when you replace the battery on any merc with a eis it needs to have the steering angle reintiated by turning the steering from lock to lock until the bas/esp light goes out,you also have to reset your electric windows and sunroof too

I have had the same trouble ,I replaced brake light switch ,and every thing is working again, Thanks to the Forum

I had the same trouble with my SLK. BAS/ESP light would come on randomly - sometimes it would be ok, other times the light would come on straight away.

Took it to my Merc dealer yesterday and they found the problem to be the Lateral Acceleration Sensor which sits under the dash somewhere. Part cost was £62.69 + VAT but they discounted it to £56.42 + VAT (how generous!). Labour was around £100 + VAT.

At least they were very polite and explained the problem.
