I have decided to invest in a battery charger of some kind, my battery read 11.4v today even though i drove about 80mls, i mostly use the car on Sunday's so i don't think I'm doing the battery any favours.

Can anybody recommend a quality quick charger so i can give it a good charge and bring it back to life, preferably a portable unit that way i can use it for work.

TIA;)

The above would indicate that your battery is past its sell by date and that you have a short circuit cell.

You cant use a fast charger while the battery is still hooked up to the car.

What is the running voltage of the car

Thanks for the reply,

If you mean the voltage while the car is in motion i have no idea, will the battery be covered by the warranty?

Thanks

I have the ferrari, the exige and the elise plugged into their own Optimate battery conditioner in the garage. Never had any issues with the battery dispite (cringingly) doing very little mileage.

Have a look at the CTEK range.

You do have to be careful about the types of battery chargers, batteries and mercedes cars electrics in general.

It depends on who warranty, the low battery has side effects and against belief it puts a strain on the starter causing high cranking amps due to the longer cranking time.

Chargers at a fixed rate are safer than fully automatic chargers, when you hook up a automatic charger to a low battery, the amps and voltage shoot up to a high level to try and find a working level and it is this high voltage that our cars do not like.

When the car is in use the max voltage is 13.8 -14 volts so that is only 1.5-2 volts to charge the battery

I have merc extended warranty, do you think its worth telling them or just get a charger and hope it recovers? either way i think i should get a charger for future maintenance.

TIA

The Optimate is designed for small batteries (up to 28 Ah) ... do you mean Accumate? That's what my R129 is permanently hooked up to.

Mascot Three of four stage charger. Not cheap but very good.

My car does low mileage so I bought the
Manufacturer: CTEK

Weight: 0.70kg
Availability: In Stock

Our Price: £49.95
Brilliant charger for a low price with 5 year warranty,I have been using mine for nearly 9 months now with no problems I leave battery connected and just use the charger to keep the battery charged up.
I got this charger from the link that somebody put on the forum the same as the one that CMR has put on, I use mine on a C200.

I have one of these, and I'm well pleased....if anyone else in the house hold may be using it I'd buy the extra battery leads that are attached permanently on each battery, so the charger is simply plugged in when needed!

Cheers

:)

MB do a charger/conditioner - about £50 IIRC. Might be worth asking your dealer about it.
