I'm thinking of getting a battery charger before the long winter nights start. According to the manual for my W204 C320CDi, in order to charge the battery without disconnecting it the chargers output must not exceed 14.8 volts. So far I cannot find a charger which states what its maximum output voltage is and wondered if anyone can suggest a suitable charger.

Such a charger would be much more convenient than disconnecting the battery and would make topping up the batttery a doddle.:)

Another option is the CTEK charger, it is available in "MB clothes" or at lower cost as manufacturer branded.

Get one which is switchable between full charge and trickle charge and also switchable between sealed and non-sealed batteries.

Also check the rating of the charger against the battery itself, e.g. the one Jay showed above is suitable for batteries upto 50mAh - the battery on my S500 is 100mAh!

I'm loathe to recommend Halfords for anything, but I got a charger with all these features and suitable for my battery size for £49.95 from them.

You mean 50Ah/100Ah. My CTEK is suitable for batteries from 1.2 Ah to 120 Ah (only 12 V batteries). Of course one could use it on bigger ones but it would be too slow. I believe a 7A model was about 30 euros.

my ring one is used on my SEC which also has a 100ah batter.. works perfect..

come to think of it the SL sits in a carcoon which also uses the CTEK one..

Thanks for all the info, I am interested in the CTEK and maybe the Accumate as both state their maximum voltages to be within Mercedes specs.

This is my AccuMate ... very handy on the optional wall mount. Flylead (supplied) permanently fitted to the battery, so just a question of plugging the lead from the charger into that after parking. Comes with an alternative lead with croc. clips too.
