Battery Charging - In Situ

There are no suitable sockets.

Why do you want to charge via the boot?

I’ve been charging my SL 400 (2017) for 5 winters now (with my 15 year old CTEK) using the jump start points as recommended in the owners manual. No issues.

Make sure you use AGM mode!

that’s a shame.

Charging via the boot is more convienent given my garage layout, electrical sockets and that i have to reverse in.

On my F Type I got jaguar to wire in a socket into the boot, I’m wondering if I could get the same done on SL

Sure that you could. Simple task.

Fit a Magcode connector either inside the boot or outside in a discreet location.

Do you not have an extension cable?

Although it’s easy to rig an alternative to the connection points that were designed and built by MB on your very modern car, it seems odd not to just run an ordinary extension cable to achieve this.

Obviously don’t use a rolled up extension cable. It should be loose so that the cable is ventilated and heat is disappeared.

Just for completeness, another big advantage of the battery conditioner rather than a “charger,” is that it will almost eliminate the need to replace/ renew the battery as it gets older. Which will make Greta happy.

Just a side note, don't try to start the car with a charger connected, its not a starter pack, you will toast the fuse in it.😇
You can start it with a Ctek connected. I have done it loads of times unintentionally, for some reason its always my Range Rover. Jump in, reverse out the garage then notice the lead is lying at the front of the car. Keep meaning to put a post it on the steering wheel, but forget to do that.

I stick the empty CTEK bag under the driver's windscreen wiper... Simple's best....

Wow - I’d talk to CTEK about that. Mine is about 15years old and has been used and abused and still going strong. As stated above - I’ve been doing the SL for 5 winters without issue. I actually use it all year round as I don’t do much mileage (18,000 now and that is mostly road trips).
I think they would laugh. Its been dropped many times, had a cracked casing from being nearly run over.....been left on salty boats for months on end. I'm not worried about it failing.....too much abuse!!

Aaah, your post did not let in that it was well abused.:)

There wont be any heat generated from running a charger, the current drawn is very small around 1.5 amps.
