I have a tipping trailer with it's own battery. There is a supply to the battery when driving, however I understand that this is only a trickle charge and I was advised I would need to re-charge the battery from time to time.
The trailer is only used a couple of times a month and is 1 year old.
Recently the battery went completely dead. Part of the cause was a blown fuse in the supply from the car.
I tried to re-charge with an old (very old) charger and I have been advised that the old charger has insufficient output for a modern battery.
So I've been to halfords & bought a new charger.
When charging a battery in the past I have always removed the bungs from the battery.
The trailer battery is under the trailer bed and is difficult to access. The manufacturers provide an external charging socket to avoid having to tip the trailer for charging.
The new charger has a switch to select "sealed battery" or "standard" but the info supplied by halfords is next to useless.
What is the correct way to charge a battery?
Should the bungs be removed?
Should I leave the bungs in and select "sealed battery"?
