Battery Size!!!!

I have a W124 E220 (made in 1995),since I bought it and I had doubts about the battery size (it has high capacity battery),the battery in the car is 88 Din (same size as 100 Din) and it barely fit in the battery place with bolted plate on,is this normal? Is there any 88 Din or 100 Din with smaller size? or is this normal?
