Does anyone know the correct battery fitment for my 1997 C180 Auto? According to Haynes, it should be 72ah but mine has a 100ah MB one in there. The thing is, it turns over slowly in the morning and I want to replace it with the right one.

Thanks,

Helen

Varta

Sounds as if the previous owner had a heavy duty battery fitted which is now on the way out. :( Probably for a diesel version of your car.Not a bad idea actually :) but a GOOD QUALITY 74Ah BATTERY WILL BE FINE. :D Try Varta blue or silver DYNAMIC. see http://www.varta-automotive.com/eng/ widely available and OEM for mercedes. Use the car fitment guide on their website.

Mines got a 100ah battery fitted, In the back of the service history is the option codes and one is the code for a Heavy Duty Battery.

Hi

100AH MB battery MA005 541 21 01 is £68.27 inc vat at MB commercial. Same part number as required for 98 E300TD

230K

Thanks all. I've checked the VIN code thing and found that it had a heavy duty battery at birth. Also listed are the following codes:-
673 high-capacity battery (с 01.01.1964)

807 Change of year of model, last figure shows new model year
What does this mean?
833
What goes in here?
910 14V/65A alternator
alternator with increased capacity (с 01.11.1990)

955 extension tube on the roof, front
equipment package elegance (с 01.11.1991)

Does anyone know why the alternator is 65A? The manual says 45/90 for this model. Also, what's the 'extension tube' mean?

100Ah battery

Sounds as if your car has an uprated alternator/battery package. :) Not a bad thing with all the extra electrical gizmos on the newer models. Under the circumstances I would go with a straight replacement 100Ah battery from MB or Varta. :D

other web sites see http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/mbcodes.htm
give the following for 833
833 Großbritannien-Fahrzeuge Zusatzteile additional parts for U.K. vehicle version
and for 955
955 Elegance-Ausstattung Elegance equipment package :(

Thanks all. I went to Costco and bought a Bosch 9BN. This is a 90ah battery and is the same physical size (huge) as the 100ah MB Varta one that is in the car. Price was £44.99 plus VAT which makes it a bargain as the 75ah model (7HN) was £42.99.......
