Battle scars from the Autobahn!!!

What a nightmare, your car is stunning Simon.
However i am sure with a good re-spray it will be back to its perfect former glory.....Anyway, I bet the Autobhan was worth it for a few stone chips....

As said it wasn't all from this trip as I had a few chips anyway and picked up quite a few on our recent journey up to MSL when I was behind Don's CLS, when our peddles hit the carpet:devil:

Oops  sorry Simon! Didn't know the splatter was that bad...

My front bumper was fairly peppered from chips after the trip and need to get it resprayed too or try something like this first:

Scratch and stone chip removal.... - Detailing World

Glad you guys had a great time!

I love the wheels, hope I can find a set like that :D

Yeah it was that section Rash. I was at the back of our convoy and as we gunned onto the autobahn I was behind Ricky. The radio warning came through, but I couldn't hear it clearly and then it was too late and I got a proper splattering. I have picked up a couple more on the front pillar and mirror but they are minor. It's the hazard of being the car at the rear I guess.

I know the only option is a repaint, but I may leave it until after winter now as the roads here will be at their worst then. As you know my car is an everyday car so I think a clear protective film will be a good move to keep it at it's best.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
That's why I refuse to chase after people who are in the same lane.
It's hard to resist chasing after someone who guns it, but I know it's for the better. Especially considering we all run sticky tyres that pick up stones like blutac!
Side by side action is fine but I don't do "train" driving.
You probably notice that I momentarily drift to the inside edge of my lane when people pull in front of me.. this is to try and reduce the chance of getting hit by stones they flick up that accumulate in between lanes.

The Don is a nightmare for this.. if you ever get hungry, go and see The Don. He makes good chips.

I understand you wanting to wait until after winter now.
Probably best to be honest. It's only plastic so you won't be causing any further damage by not getting it painted.

I just won't park near you at Trax Rash:D

Mate, believe me when I tell you that I have my work cut out for me.
Car is currently being sorted at MB today.
I will have it back tomorrow.

I will then embark on a monumental clean up mission.
I've given the bodywork and engine bay a quick going over but it all needs doing properly.
Body, engine bay, underneath, wheels, hubs, calipers, shocks & springs, wheel arch liners and exhaust.

Wouldn't it be better to wait after Trax? :dk:

That looks interesting Don but I would have thought that the amount of metallic paint needed that would need to be added to the lacquer to cover would affect the lacquer drying to the point it wouldn't fully cure. With mine there are just so many that I will just get it painted so it's 100% and will then get a protective film added.

I had a long search for the right wheels to come up and this set are the ideal offset etc for my car front and rear. They are the exact ones recommended for my car shown on the BBS website (they are within 1mm of the AMG fitments).

They do come up now and again, just need to be lucky. It's a bit like me trying to find one of those steering wheels:wallbash:

I've got plenty of stone chips on my bumper and bonnet, so I think a respray is needed too, I'm going to give that method a try on a small patch to see how it works out....

I'm keeping my eyes peeled on eBay so hopefully will find a set that fits... Didn't you end up getting that steering wheel ?

I didn't get that steering wheel, but I still have the option to at the moment. I contacted the guy and he sent me the pics I forwarded to you, but from what I could see the airbag part looked a bit scuffed and that can't be covered. I just thought by the time I've bought new paddles and had the main steering wheel re-covered it was probably going to be too much cost:dk:

TBH, not worth it if it pretty scuffed, I can give you the paddles that I removed from mine, but not sure how well they will work...
