Becker Nav Pilot "navigation module not connected"

I collected my new (to me) SLK 250 CDI and still wading my way through the manuals. I managed to get the Navi working yesterday but today it is displaying "navigation module not connected". There is a pop out plastic tray/card on the front which looks to be all plastic and wonder if a data card is supposed to replace it before the system will work? Like I said, it worked yesterday and I was able to input a route. If I give the whole module, located in the glove box, a bit of a jiggle, it boots up but reverts to the above message after releasing it. Loose plug? Thanks, James.

You don't need a data card for the Becker to work, that is purely to expand the memory capacity of the unit. If you don't have the Becker Operating Manual you can download it from here: http://www.mybecker.com/uploads/tx_akkordion/Manual_MAP_PILOT_V2_5_ECE_en_GB.pdf This will show you how to correctly install it, you should here a definite click when it locks in place. I would also remove the unit & using a torch check the plug socket in the glovebox to see if there is any damage to the brass contacts which could be causing your problems.

Correct. The internal memory is either 4gb (on early models) or 8gb (on later models).

The 8gb is more than enough to store all of Europe maps, so if you have the 8gb model then you would not need to use the SD-Card slot.

In order to provide stable power, the Becker Map Pilot works of an internal 3.7V Lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

I.e., the Becker Map Pilot is NOT powered directly from the car's battery.

If the rechargeable battery fails, the Becker Map Pilot will stop working, even if the unit gets 12V from the car

When connected to the PC via USB cable, the Becker Map Pilot unit is powered directly from the USB (and not from the internal battery).

Obviously you need to check that the unit has 'clicked' in place properly, and all the relevant fuses etc, but check also the battery.

If the battery seems to have expanded and appears 'swollen' then it will definitely need replacing.

Thanks everyone. I think the module was not pressed firmly home. I gave it a firm push back and it is booting and staying connected without any error messages and seems to be working now.

I have the same problem changed the battery but still not working was working when I bought the car but stopped after a week will the car change the battery?? Cheers
