I have just bought a beautiful turbo r, and when I went to pick it up the alternator went to lunch! The car is in mint condition, it checked out fine but there you go. I understand they do suffer idiosyncrasies and I am ready for some, hopefully not too many though. If anyone can fore worn or prepare me for what to expect it would be most welcome. I have a stable of benzes and Bernese, all from the eighties, some high mileage cars and can say that I do not understand problematic cars. We are very fortunate here in oz in that if you look after cars they do not rust or suffer many issues.

Can't help on the Bentley front - I've considered a Turbo R in the past.

Replacement parts are spectacular is what I got told. However I now have an E55K and just didn't bother looking into what 'could' go wrong.

You'd never buy anything other than a skateboard otherwise.

Just looking at the fact you had a 525e!

I bought one once to fill in between selling an E36 325i privately and getting top dollar to then buy an M3 Evolution.

It was an interesting car - 525e(fficiency) - so why on Earth is there a reduced power 2.5 (IIRC) straight six with auto transmission - that just doesn't rev beyong 4250rpm I think it was...

 :D

Had an early one, things always going wrong. Rear self levelling, rusty wheelarches, dodgy electrics, suspension takes a pounding.

They are beautiful handbuilt cars and cost a fortune to run. I loved owning it, loved selling it too.

It was a 2.7. Low revving, tuned for torque and economy. Amazing car. Had ours for 13years. If I remember correctly at 70mph it was turning over at around 1700rpm. Have always regretted selling it.

That's right - 2.7. I knew it was around there.

You say that but mine was gutless and incredibly juicy. I would have thought a 518 would have done more to the gallon...

Hello to all

The 525e is my daily driver, 400k's and never had an issue! I hope to do another 400k with it! I drive 2500ks per week around Melbourne in it. I have a number of Benzs, but all too big for city work. I have a 735 executive in mint condition also, probably the closest car to the Bentley for ride, somewhat noisier but also an effortless cruiser. have just had a 1000k round trip in the Turbo, sure is some car! And does it have a prescence. Thanks for your offer of help, I will definitely keep your details. If you are ever in Melbourne, drop me a line. Gold Coast to Melbourne is 1800k,s about 20 Hours drive straight through, do it about 4 times per year, part of the reason for the Bentley. Police here are not very understanding when you get caught speeding though.
Cheers.

The biggies on the Turbo R are headgaskets, hydraulics, suspension spheres, brakes and finally rust. I had 3 of those items go in 1 year costing 13k gbp! Lovely cars though.
