Is these such a thing as a really good Generic Scanner? I really want to be able to look at BMW and Mercedes but it must be able to diagnose EHC II (dual axle air suspension).

I have a selection of dedicated scanners that give differing results and would prefer (if possible to get to one machine that scans these two makes (in depth)

Seen a heavy duty generic scanner by icarsoft. Watch out though lots of fakes in the market

Yes I have already been bitten by a fake icarsoft BMW scanner. Oddly enough Icarsoft support dialed into the scanner but were unable to state if is is fake or not? So they just stopped talking to me or answering any calls/emails etc.

I have an iCarsoft MB11 scanner ( they have a newer version out now, iCarsoft MB V2 which contains some additional capability's) They do a Multi-Veh scanner too, but as far as I know, It's limited in what it can do, and seems to be pretty basic. The iCarsoft I have is Mercedes dedicated, and short of going the whole hog and buying a "STAR" diagnostic scanner, it's pretty good. If you go to the iCarsoft web site, you will see exactly what they can offer. They have a range of "AUTEL" scanners, and one of those might be a better bet for you.

I have used my iCarsoft MB11 on my BMW quite successfully.

When connecting the unit, it offers a choice of Mercedes or OBDII. When in OBDII mode, if it comes across a DTC, it then asks for the car's manufacturer giving a list of about 25, including BMW. Then it gives you the BMW text for the DTC.

I use this:

Carly - Connected Car - Your Car App - Connect Your Car Now!

It's OK for the price... but not as good as the iCarsoft MBII.

On my W204 it reconises 26 MB-specific ECUs (on top of the standard OBDII), which is not bad.

But it does not support coding for Mercedes (though I think it might for BMW).

I only have the iCarsoft OBD scanner a few weeks ( week after I bought it, they introduced the iCarsoft MB V2... ) and am still exploring with it. For sure, it's a powerfull tool. When buying it, I was assured that it was Mercedes-specific ( which is what I want ) but no mention of anything else....so now I am very happy to hear that it can read other makes too. Thanks Codger !!!:) Please post results if you use it on any other make, will be interesting to see just what it can do.
