SL63 + Polestar 2 + Jensen Interceptor
I need to sell my 2009 SL63. Seems a whole load of places to sell from auto trader to webuyanycar to auction sites. A Quick Look on AT and my specific car is anything from high teens to 40k. 40k is having a laugh with a 13k miles car but what do people find is best. Slightly specialist. Think auction be a real risk of a low low sale. Tried motorway and they are suggesting 15k. Don’t want to selll but restoring a Jensen and need the money to finish off. The Uk SL Facebook group is full of ads so thinking that probably does t work.

I think AT is still the best outlet for selling your car.
Have you given any thought to advertising it on Pistonheads?

Yeah I gave them a call and they were keen to push the auction option but that was with a quite low reserve. Am interested in where people find best to get a good price. Used Motorway before for mainstream cars and that works well but 15k for the SL seems a bit low.

You could look at which dealers are listing SL63 (or big modern AMGs) on Auto Trader and see if they want more stock?

You could use the AT chrome extension to see how long similar cars have been for sale and the pricing.

Sold my last two to Evans Halshaw. Very hassle free and they offered was way better than any other platform / trader.

SSC in Yorkshire had my M4, but they also had my pants down and were a bit of a PITA to deal with.

I know it's more hassle....but you will never get close to private prices selling to a dealer or WBAC or whatever. But I appreciate some people prefer an easy life and selling stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea. I've PXed a few bikes in my time....but sold every car I've owned (35 plus at a rough guess) myself with no problems at all. Just a pity the last one I sold he wrote off in about two months... loved that car!!!!!

Have you tried Carwow?
I’m thinking of selling my BMW soon and carwow are saying about £5k more than what WBAC are offering.

AT is certainly the best place to sell as you'll reach the national audience of both private and trade buyers.

But AT made John Madejski's fortune by sellers advertising at unrealistic prices. You need to be realistic about what price it will actually achieve. And you need to go through the admin of preparation, and processing enquiries.

If you don't want to do the work, a dealer will mop your SL63 up, for a realistic trade-in price and then take a £5k margin to cover his costs, his capital and his risk. You can reach out to them via Carwow or Motorway

Oh, and convertibles get better prices in April / May after the clocks spring forward, the light improves, and the days lengthen. Sounds obvious but people do try to sell convertibles, and all kinds of motors in the winter.

BTW if you look at the URL you'll see how long any vehicle has been advertised for a sale. It's useful information. Like this one

This one looks like it's been up for sale for a year. In fact, it's more like two years, because it's simply been readvertised.

The owner's over-ambitious, and the car may have "a few issues."

(I know it's not an SL63, it's just a car that I've noticed from a long time ago)

Incidentally, if you're not rushed, with some traders you can agree on your asking price, they will then keep your car on their forecourt (or adverts) with the windscreen sticker showing your asking price, and if the car is sold they'll get an agreed commission. So you're not selling the car until there's a buyer. I actually know someone who did this with an SL500 at the time.

For me, a private sale is too much aggro these days, too many tyre kickers, people who just want to rag your car and even those people who want to scam or steal it!
Everyone can use the internet and will check WBAC before visiting you and then offer you a stupid low price.
Personally as has been said, i would look to a specialist who will do all the advertising and aggro and take a cut. You are then also not letting strangers visit your house to see what else you have

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - just me being "glass half empty'

The WBAC price argument won't stack up with me...WBAC is book trade or less....a private sale is between trade and dealer forecourt retail....or should be. Most of those you get offering silly money are quite often traders or private blokes looking to flip it for quick grand....something I used to do a fair bit for beer money.

Thanks don’t think you are wrong here. Was hoping I’d get some recommendations from dealers people have used. Mole Valley the nearest to me and can’t get them to answer phone, return calls or answer email so clearly not interested!
