Been considering getting a Garmin nuvi 3598LMT-D or the 3597 model.

Does anyone that has one of these devices have any feedback? Thanks.

Wow, interesting device. Unfortunately there are no user reviews/ratings but I'll do a search. It would replace the existing comand system though, I suppose. Seems a little drastic.

No experience of the Garmin devices in your post but was wondering if you have considered the using a smart phone instead of a separate device such as Garman?

Yes, using copilot on smartphone at the moment. Not too bad, but a few rough edges, meaning I sometimes take wrong turnings on roundabouts, which wastes time.

Also, I want a bigger screen than my phone.

Reviews look quite good, was just after the lowdown on these two devices from people that have used them extensively.

Hi
In my opinion the 3798 (only at Halfords) is the better of the two... very pleased with mine, the only slight 'glitch' is that occasionally the map slowly disappears and I am effectively driving across a grey field with no roads... a quick reboot always corrects this issue but could catch me out at a crucial point, otherwise very pleased.

Last two have been TomTom. Not flawless, but pretty good all the same, and the XXL I have at the moment has lane guidance, which even as an experienced driver, comes in handy.
Lane guidance is a must-have for inexperienced motorway drivers.

I once had a NAVMAN. A thoroughly wretched device with customer service to match. Absolutely hopeless!

Not sure why anyone would buy an external sat nav now.

The best sat nav is on phones. Waze seems top for traffic avoidance and Sygic best for maps (offline).

Spend the £300 on a top phone instead with a bigger screen.

@zzzf00l:
Yes, I saw that bug in some user reviews for the Garmin 3598 (or did you really mean 3798?).

Hopefully they will provide a fix for that soon. Wonder what Garmin's track record is for putting out bug fix updates of the Sat nav software?

There are some other gripes from people about it on Amazon reviews for this device, which is putting me off buying it, also the small screen...my smartphone's screen is almost as big.

I'm after a decent high end Sat nav with the frequent digital traffic updates, plus a large screen that's easy to see when driving.

I think I'll stick to copilot on android for now until they fix these bugs and bring out a bigger screen version.

I really like the Garmin user interface design, but it'll have to wait for now.

That's great, unless you are on the phone constantly...
Nothing worse than your phone ringing whilst approaching an unfamiliar junction...sat nav cuts to the caller.
Admittedly you could still keep a second phone as a satnav judging by the prices of some of the devices!

I use a combination of Comand, a £50 mio unit and my smartphone. But these days I do little driving to an unknown destination...

I hate Garmins routing, borrowed a new one again the other day from a friend and its route choice was terrible.

TomTom has much better routing, for the UK anyway.

To ringway and Jane: in the user reviews on Amazon for the Garmin 3598 device, many people said they've moved from Tom Tom to Garmin, don't know if this is a trend or not though.

Thanks for the info, will check those out.

I agree that smartphone and sat nav have a lot of overlap now, and a dedicated device might gradually disappear as smartphone solutions improve.

However, I really like the Garmin user interface, from what I've seen of it, and I'd like something with a screen that's more like 7" instead of the 4 to 5 of a typical smartphone.

Also, like V12 says, a dedicated device avoids annoyances like incoming calls etc interfering with navigation.

Maybe a tablet running Sat nav software would be the way to go? Bigger screen, cheap, can be used for other things too, not just sat nav...hmmmm
