hi folks
i am about to buy a new van i drive a vw caddy at the moment and I'm very happy with it apart from having to have it serviced every 10K
i was just wonding what people on this forum would recommend
service intervals and miles per gallon need to be good
cheers chilled
I was thinking of purchasing a transit connect (which seems an excellent van) , however doing some research and being a bit tight
(I hate loosing money in terms of depreciation ) the Citroen Berlingo drew my attention. Excellent reliability, superb high driving position, massive doors and high windscreen and rear load space is incredible for a small van, easy as big, if not bigger in my opinion than a connect. Cambelt intervals are from between 60,000 and 80,000 depending on driving conditions, oil changes every 10,000 miles. I am getting 46 / 49 mpg mixture of driving
. I looked on the British Car Auction site for van sale sales and was amazed at how many older ones eg 1998 to 2003 models that had covered well over 200,000 miles. A couple had over 250,000 !!! Even the shape has not changed since the original model came out 10 years ago ( apart from larger headlights that came out in 2003 ) So if you do buy an older model it still looks up to date !
Last week I bought a 1999 T reg with 104,000 miles full citroen service history two owner van for £1,275 ( no vat ) that is immaculate. I am amazed with what I have got for my money.
I suppose it depends on how much you want to pay, but if you're looking at keeping it out of the dealers for services with an older van you can pop it down to a drive in drive out quik fit type place for an oil change which is usually done in half an hour.
Car and van build quality has improved so much over the past decade that I think more of us should take advantage of older models and not be too scared of things going wrong.
Good Luck
