Best stuff to clean the carpet with...

I use 1001 in my wet n dry vac... for tough stains we put some vanish spray onto it... we have some decosol carpet mousse too which is good stuff... secret is to use warm water with these products...

Auto Glym Car Shampoo is good.

Have just used it on carpets, seats and roof lining and was extremely impressed with the results. To be fair you may need something more of industrial strength if the carpets are heavliy marked, HTH

Try not to use products containing soap to clean carpets. The soap sticks to the fibers and will cause other dirt to stick to the carpet. I always recommend an ammonia based carpet or upholstery cleaner to my customers.

Of course, the majority of man made carpets can be cleaned with bleach in the worst case, but this is an absolute no-no for any carpets with a wool content.

the old way ! drastic but it worked

I use a 1989 190E as a tacsi and used to take the seats out soak the with warm, water sprinkle some washing powder on scrub with a scrubing brush, wash of with a hose pipe, suck with a vax wet'n'dry and alow to dry in the sunshine !
VERY DRASTIC ! I know but cleaned them at least 20 times this way and always looked like new afterwards !
got a c180 w202 now and wouldnt dream of doing that to the seats for one reason the cloth just wouldnt take that sort of scrubing as with everything else in comparison to the two models the c class isnt built with half the quality.
so at the moment I just use the vax with 1001 cleaner.

I have used small levels of washing powder in vaxes for years to clean upholstery and carpets.
I was told by a chemical engineer from a large multi national manufacturer of washing powder and detergents based in Trafford Park Manchester (guess the co then??) that washing powders were designed to wash coloured fabrics without damaging them (think of the expensive clothing people wear) so why not cars.
Also for heavy wear areas on fabric you can buy Scotchguard in aerosol format which can be used to protect it after cleaning. Good enough for sofas etc.
Always read Manufacturers safety data sheets or Manufacturers info first it is legally binding for the supplier to provide consumers with information in accordance with CHIP regs.
I would agree with Tacsi and wait for a nice warm dry day though (unlike this w/e).:)

Scotchgard spray is a waste of money and effort. The only effective scotchgarding can be done at the factory, as aftermarket sprays do not coat the fibers properly.
