Does the key simply not fit Ie. the whong 1 or does it need some silicon oil in the key hole. DO NOT USE MINERAL OIL it kn_ackers the lock.

When you get in you may find its a fuse problem, they seem to oxidise and loose there contact. happened to one of mine. Either replace with new clean fuse or try cleaning the contacts...these may work...they did for me.

If the dont work, a brick is all I can come up with.

When I got mine open I left it unlocked and alarm off until fixed, as it was drawing too much attention with the alarm going off, then re setting and sounding again.

I understand that the dodgy fuse connection was detected by the alam as current draw thus triggering it!

Sorry have no more than that for you!

Thank god for having a slim and limber wife!!! :)........ Managed to get the boot open, poped the rear seats and had the misses clamber through and pull the door handle....then managed to open the bonnet and disconnect the battery.....so at least we have a bit of piece and quiet now!!!.....thankfully the car was in the garage ....so will be safe.

So to my next question .......does anyone know of a merc specialist in se London that can come to me, possibly with a low loader, to sort this issue out......or am I stuck with Mercedes main dealer prices??

All help greatfully received

There is someone down South who is mobile. I have not seen him active on the forum for a while. His forum nickname is something like Willow. I'm sure some of the boys down south can help.

Total google stab. I know nothing of the guy or if he is recommended. Might be worth the shot.

Ok, managed to speak to a very nice tech at Merc Bromley this morning .....he reckons that it may 'just' be my battery ...and that if its running at below 10amps it can cause all sorts of probs, has told me to charge the battery and see if that cures it. ....anyone experienced anything like this before?

Just a quick update......had Mercedes assist come out today .....and of course when they got here the damn thing worked perfectly!!!! Grrrr:-)..

Anyway.....as he mechanic and I were looking at the engine, scratching our heads, a little face popped out of the baffle on he bonnet!!...yep a little mouse has made my engine bay home.....

Now in at Mercedes, seeing how much of my electrics the little bugger has chewed through!!!!.....

You couldn't make this up!! :-).....the wife is still peeing herself laughing!! :D

Honest to goodness?!?

Got to ask - what became of the little bleeder? Hope you have quietly re-homed it in the wife's handbag or pants drawer :D

I'd av squashed the life outa the littlke fecker there and then if he'd chewed my electrics up!

Re-homed him?

Yeah right!

I guess all Mercedes car built from 2000 onwards must of come with a Mouse built in !!!

Surely Mercedes weren't responsible for all those electrical problems ;)

right ...just had the call!!! ......the little bleeder had chewed through the 'bonnet open' sensor which had shorted out, which set off the alarm, which (because, as they found out, the battery was sub standard) had drained the battery below 8amps, which had disabled the EIS. In the process of being fixed now.....as for Mikey ......a funeral service will be being held by the bins behind Orpington Mercedes this saturday :D

If the battery < 1 year old and bought from mercedes, they can claim it off their supplier and you get a nice new battery. Worked this way for me once.
But your main problem is that mice never arrive one by one. There are sure to be more about somewhere. I imagine the costs of setting a few traps will be far less than any garage bills arising from chewed cables.
