What is the best cleaner to get rid of the rainbow colours and blotches on the black chrome trim around the windscreen, back window, roof rails and windows. I have already tried chrome polish, this removes the rainbow but still leaves the blotches, any ideas ?

Black Chrome

Is it that black sort of hard plastic you are meaning?, the stuff that goes between the front/rear doors?. Also what do you mean by rainbows?, fine scratches?. I may know how to help ;)

he means it's like that spectrum effect you get when you see oil in water.

Ahh, right, I didnt think he meant the result of some halucinogen misuse ;) . When he comes back and confirms what I think his prob is ill wise him up, I had the same but not now :)

Thanks Shude, the spectrum effect is exactly what I could not explain......now ideas please.

OK, if its what I think it is, its hard water calcium marks which is from not drying off the darker bits quickly enough after washing/rinsing i.e. sun dried. It dries solid, unlike natural rainfall. I had it happen to me. I cured it with very mild cutting polish, "T-Cut mettalic" or something similar.

Go steady and follow the grain or rather longitude of the plastic. Dont get to carried away either. It should also reduce the fine scratches, which may be causing the prism effect, as well but not those which you can feel with a finger nail.

After polishing off it will look dull and awfull. Dont worry, give it a going over with the best wax you have and polish again. It will now be as near new as is possible.

From now on always dry off the dark bits first and quickly, especially in hot/sunny weather. Good luck it,worked for me

Try using Autoglym "Car Glass Polish" - used on the black anodized aluminium surroundind windows etc. - works well without need to wax afterwards (cleans the surrounding rubber too) - PS its cr*p as a glass cleaner!
