Well gone and done it. My quad tips are now gloss black. Plus is no more shiny chrome to clean. Tried out new N95 8GB phone camera through bluetooth - easy to use.

Way to go!! :bannana: :bannana:

They look really good tudu. In keeping with the rest of the car :D

Excellent mod

How did you do this? If it's just paint onto stainless tips then you will have needed an etching primer and to rough the metal first.

Ideally they need plating with either black nickel or black chrome depending on desired finish.

Rubbed down tips with wet and dry, applied HT primer then 3 coats of Black Gloss HT paint from Halfords. So far done about 300 miles, and they are still nice and glossy no bubbling, peeling etc. Ideally wanted them black chrome but firm i tried first said couldn't be done, then had the cheek to quote me £250 for all 4 tips in black chrome. Would have had the 2 AMG pipes fitted and welded cheaper than they wanted, and had money left over to buy another set of steel tips from Longlife.

Not sure whether to lacquer over the black gloss or not.

Black chrome or nickel costs a fortune due to the process and demand.

As i found out. £7.25 for wet&dry, primer and HT Black Gloss was a very good bargain. Plus look good to me and great pleasure in doing the job yourself.

I hope you realise they will still need cleaning and won't look gloss for long... ;)

Yep, but no more polishing. As to the gloss finish thinking of spraying couple of coats of clear lacquer over tips, or might just leave to turn flat black. I would rather have to re-coat black every six to nine months than polish tips once a week.
