So here I was driving back from my parent's place and bam! Hit a pothole!

Left a nice scrape and dent on the rim and taken gouge out of the sidewall of the front left tyre :wallbash:

So now faced with the dilemma of replacing either just the damaged one or the both of them, they have 5mm of thread left and are pirelli's...

So if anyone has a spare in 255 40 R 18.... let me know :D

Not sure my advice will help... I always change tyres in sets of four. But then my lowly 205/55 R16 are far cheaper than your fancy rubber :D

Said, that, I had an unrepairable blowout just one week after fitting four new Conti MOs, and in this case I bought only one new (same model) tyre.

So I guess I am saying replace (at least) two...

sod that!

It's like Springs, garages will always say replace in pairs - until they are footing the bill.

But you do need to be aware of the imbalance in driving so it depends on if you use your cars performance I guess.

As an aside - I only once relented on this policy - that was with a Michelin tyre on the back of a pug 406. The first back Tyre blew out at 50,000 miles. I thought the other had done it's job by then. They still had 3mm on them.

Hmm my rears are only a few months old, and are Michelin PS3, fronts are Pirelli so this might be a good chance to have Michelins all around...

Hope the rear tyre hasn't been damaged too

Hi,
Take a picture of the pothole and damage to the tyre and rim. Present a claim to the local council. I have heard of several folk getting settlements.
Then put the money you thought it would cost to a matching new front tyre for the other side and keep the original as the spare.

i would replace both fronts and sell the pirelli on ebay, job done, unless you can find the same pirelli part worn with similar tread depth.

some people dont like part worns in which case go the new route!

Just ordered two new Michelin PS and got them both for £275 shipped! I think I will keep the Pirelli as a spare just in case!

Now the trick is to get them fitted ;)
