Bluetooth module

For starters you can buy this module for about £200 from the dealers.
It isn't the full on module either. You really need the next model up as it uses Bluetooth SAP.
Basically it will download your phonebook into the car and uses the cars antenna, the module you have shown does not so you get crap reception.

I have the latest module (silver SLR bonnet look) which is also the latest version 2 of that type. Currently on Orange using Nokia N73.

Works a treat and can't fault it.

Best advice I can offer is to ditch the 3 network - i know they have the best deals but it does make me wonder why......

I used to run an N73 on this one http://shop.mercedes-benzofmiltonkeynes.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=141&products_id=1377 and I now run an N95 on it. They have bothed worked very well with this module.

Yes but it dosnt work with 3, and as I have just renewed my contract, im not going to change networks.

Sorry Dent Guy in the past two years never had a problem with the 3 network.

So going back to my original question, does anyone use one of these.

Have you called 3 if they would change your subscription to allow your 3 SIM card being used on a GSM only phone too? Some time ago a guy from Australia had their local 3 make this change. His argument was that he wants to use HF in his car but they only had the BT SAP device at that time. 3 assumed he would leave for another operator if they did not allow GSM only phones for him and then made the change.

I was surprised the Australian 3 allowed this because it would allow one to use national roaming always, using a different operator with a 3 subscription all the time. This is what their customers at UK did a lot in the early days, before 3 disabled this option.

Of course today you would have the BT HF option, and could still use a phone from 3 normally. At least there are several posts about the BT SAP device already on this thread. But you may prefer to wait for comments from BT HF device users.

You'll have to use the HFP (cheaper) module, because the SAP module is a phone in itself and it only supports GSM, not the 3 network. The HFP module is just acting as a headset and a phone-book-downloading device (phone downloading works with many, but not all bluetooth phones) (its good with Nokia, so I assume it will be find with the N73)

Why don't you PM alfie and see if he can supply one cheaper than UK MB dealers ?

Cheers

I've got a 2001 c270 elegance. I've just got the standard cd player and not command. Does anyone no weather i could install this in my car?

If you have telephone pre wiring then you would need to change it to a UHI system and away you go.

How do i tell if i have telephone pre wireing?

If you have UHI then you have a connector like this

Somewhere, either on the side of the dash on a phone console thing, or in the centre armrest

The connector may have a cover on it, and it will look like this

Alternatively you have a cradle already there, various types, can be seen in my ML UHI phones document at above site.

Although this should probably be in a seperate thread - if you're happy dismantling cars, installing the comand 2.0 is relatively easy on a C class - but you need a dealer to make the displays in the instrument cluster work for navigation instructions (worth doing).
The difficult thing is taking the vents out above the switches above the comand unit.

If you look on www.mercupgrades.com in the W203 c class section, theres some instructions.

If you want someone to do this for you, then talk to alfie (pm him on this forum), or go via www.comand.co.uk

Quick update

I took Richards advice, and bought the cheaper HFP module.

It will not load my phone book into comand, but numbers can be stored by manually adding to the comands phone book.

It works great with the Nokia N73 on the three network.

Thats a shame, but as the other module (sap) would not have worked at all, at least it works as a phone !

It may be worth having the s/w on your N73 upgraded by a Nokia service centre if your phone is quite old, in case newer s/w allows phone book download to work properly with the HFP cradle

Cheers

Why bother to go to a service centre, he was able to post here and should then be able to update the phone SW at home with the same computer (not sure if it works with a Mac, at least a PC). I assume N73 would come with a USB cable:

Hi Richard

My N73 is less than a week old, maybe I havnt paired it correctly.

Will have a play, and see if I can get it to work.
