hi fellas don't know what you think but I like new m3 /m4
had a e90 m3 loved engine but needed to be spanked to get the best from it sounded good but manual gearbox was very agricultural and ride to hard .but this new one should be a better machine than previous maybe not in sound though ?? what you guys think ....and yes I know we are merc forum lol:thumb:

To me, 3 series cars generally have always been handsome and capable (though I've never driven one).

I'd love an M3. I still hanker after an E46 M3. Saving up for a CS currently. :)

The new car will be a hugely capable car no doubt but it's such a shame it's lost the traditional M ITB'd lump.

I owned an E90 M3 with manual gearbox about a year ago and thought it was a great car, I don't think the M3 suits any other 'box than a manual.

I had a few drives of the older M3 (E46?) with SMG and it was the worse gearbox I've ever used, absolutely shocking.

One of my friends has an M4 on order so I'll be keen to get my grubby hands on it as soon as it's delivered.

yeah I agree on that Abdul but that new twin turbo six is going to be ballistic as well

M3 dct is miles apart from that crappy smg box which I agree was terrible

SMGIII is one of the reasons I would never buy an E60 M5.

I drove an E46 M3 with SMGII and it was shyte. Much preferred my manual E36 Evo - of which the E46 felt no quicker (321BHP vs. 343BHP).

I do like the look of the new M3 and M4 - I know someone who bought a tuned 135i and it does silly figures.

SMG is the ONLY thing keeping me out of an E60 M5. That NA V10 with a manual box would be ballistic. Funny enough the yanks got it with a manual.

AMGHammer, I've no doubt the turbo'd 6 will be mad, but much the like 4.0 TT that will go in the next C63 I doubt it will have the character of it's NA cousin.

I would rather wait for the new C63 over the M3 / M4 as it has a V8 and not a 6 cylinder.

The M3/4 engine will no doubt be good but I think it will lack the aural drama that I personally find important in a car like this.

I had a tuned 135i (N54 twin turbo) and it was awesome... had around 375bhp. The 1M could be remapped to around 400bhp.

It isn't exactly the same engine in the M3/4, it's derived from the current N55 twin scroll single turbo engine which is in the current *35i / *40i cars but heavily reworked and has two mono scroll turbos - not sure how it differs to the N54.

Bet it can be remapped easily to 500bhp+

manual gearbox was very agricultural

Blimey, they have one of the best boxes in the business, what did you not like??

True, but as we are all different, that drama for me, is the straight 6, any V format just does nothing for me..
