Hi.
New to Mercedes and to the forum. Always wanted a Merc and treated myself to a s212 350 AMG Sport delivered in Sept 2014. Blown away with the car and glad I ordered it with all the toys. But have to say I'm glad I found this forum as I never expected owning a large bore diesel could potentially be so complicated.
Have found around town the 350 can be a bit flat at low revs. Decided to add a bit more low end grunt and contacted BRABUS. They put me in contact with MB Milton Keynes who agreed that the D6S is made to add the torque only in E mode and torque plus BHP in S or M modes.
Visited MB Milton Keynes today and had the D6S fitted. The 350 is now so much smoother and slicker and wants to pull through the gears in E in low revs and in S is a much more lively and eager. Apparently the upgrade improves mpg, we shall see. On the run from London to Milton Keynes the 350 averaged 48mpg, happy with that, so any more is a bonus.
Have read a great deal about ECU mapping and squeezing as much as you can out of an engine. Went the D6S route to preserve the MB warranty and allow the engine to still have some tolerance, not tempting limp mode every time you go out and living in fear of having your remap overwritten. Done the highly tuned boy racer bit in my youth, now want a smooth, subtle but leave you weeping drive.
Insurance (AVIVA) added £42 to my premium as they said, quote ' at your age you are hardly a boy racer'.
Decided not to badge the car just had decals added to the engine cover. So have some BRABUS badges to put on eBay.
Have to say Nils Jacoby at BRABUS and Michael Middlemiss at MB Milton Keynes mad the whole process so easy.
