Brake SBC System Information!

Hi Every Body.
Having Just Renewed The Rear Brakes On My E/Class E320 CDI, I Ran Across An Unexpected Problem, In That I Wasn’t Aware That You Have To Deactivate The SBC Unit Before, ( My Illiterate Fault !) I Have Had The SBC Reset, But I Need To Ask, Now That I Intend To Renew The Front Pads This Week, “ If I Disconnect The Two Batteries Beforehand, Will This Procedure Deactivate The SBC, Without Causing Me Problems, Rather Than Having To Get Someone With A Diagnostic Machine ?
Also, Since Renewing The Rear Pads, I Have Only Travelled About Ten Miles, But Have Noticed That The Wheels Are Very Hot, And A Strong Brake Smell, But I Am Hoping That It Is Because The Pads Are New, And Bedding Themselves In !

The only reason you have hot wheels and a smell of brakes is that they are binding.
 
If the wheels /hub are getting hot, the pads are not being released completely after braking. Maybe a sticking piston in the caliper or the brake pads aren't fitting very well. I had Brembo pads in my E55 that required the edges filing down so they fitted loosely in the caliper. If you have to tap them in to fit they are too tight and won't release once pushed in by braking.

Also, and some people will disagree with me, but its not necessary to isolate the SBC before a brake pad change. Open the bonnet and undo the brake fluid filler cap, shut the doors and keep the keys well away from the car. Do NOT open any door or you'll activate the SBC. Draw some brake fluid from the reservoir, then use the old pads and lever the pistons back so you can remove the pads.
Fit the new pads and top up the brake fluid before bleeding using the bleed nipples. That is how my Merc specialist changed the pads back when I had the car.

You can safely change the pads and bleed the brakes once the pads are fitted. That is how my Merc specialist changed the pads back when I had the car.

If the pads are touching the disc at all then the heat will transfer to the wheels in time.
Happened to me and I had to file down the pads for a loose fit.
