Broadband

I was with BT Broadband since Oct 2000 - when the first launched Bt Openworld broandban - thne in 2004 switched to Easynet and UKONLINE ( Easynet for work and UKONLINE for personal)

Easynet has fixed IP address - so no yoyoing although it is limited speed as they use BT exchange and equipment although it has no limits.

UKONLINE is fast - and has recently, last 6 months become very stable, poss due to me upgrading the router firmware so that it does not disconnect from the web.

Can recommend UKONLINE and EASYNET very highly!

Although - I have been assisting a friend to search for a broadband provider who does not have a download limit or a fair use policy..... as they can be used against you.

I am with pipex in work, probably the worst e mail system I have used. The filters only operate when you open to the list of e mails then you have to apply the filters:crazy: and wait and wait.................time out reboot the e mail page again and delete manualy. 200+ e mails a day is a joke. If anyone know of a spam filter that works on pipex, let me know please.

Pipex or Demon IMHO. Proper old-school, traditional ISPs with decent infrastructure and years of experience.

I've been with Demon since 1997 and have very few bad things to say about them.

I use their "home office 8000" package, 8192 / 448, static IP, no limits (just a "fair use" policy with no figures in it) and it's great! :) £24.99 per month.

There are cheaper ISPs around but then there are also cheaper cars to own.

What actual speeds are you getting with Demon?

I have exactly the same package as Shude and echo his comments to the letter.

Demon are excellent.

Well after completing on my new house on 5th Jan I went with Demon, was given a service start date of Jan 15th (which happened to be the day we moved in!) ... and 2+ weeks later I still have no Internet connection.

My router shows no ADSL so it's almost certainly a BT issue rather than Demon, but I'm getting REALLY fed up now. They have arranged two BT engineer visits, both times I stayed in all day, and both times no engineer showed up

I need to find out from Demon Cust. Services whether I'm being charged yet (bet I am).

I'm with blueyonder/NTL and haven't had many issues with them. Some problems with their local box overheating about one or twice a year (usually during summer) but no enough to make me overly annoyed.

My main concern with swapping would be (and is) that most other ISP's have either a cap on how much you can donwload/upload or a "fair-use policy" (read hidden cap).

BT for me, and for all new customers you get the Home hub/router free, with the choice of a hub phone that gives you an extra phone line

Some past experiences, hope it helps:

Pipex - fast, reliable service, difficult to speak with customer service
Plusnet - excellent at everything (recommended)
UKOnline - super-duper-awesome, impossible to speak with customer service
Telewest - *very* average peformance, good customer service

Eurobell/Telewest Blueyonder.......Excellent allround service coupled with an unlimited phone and a TV package for £28 per month

www.zen.co.uk or excite

you pay more but with zen.co.uk i have had first class tech support /customer service and no problems (i manage about 20 home office networks all with zen)

boeken
ps no i don't have shares in this company!!

Hmm, was with Cable at my last house almost 5 years ago - 512k for £25 a month, but a good connection. No calbe here so went with BT for the 12 minths, 512k, then 1mb - £29.99 a month... And then we were unlooped.. So went with Bulldog - have been with them for just over 2 years now, originally on 8mb unlimited, now on 16mb unlimited, actual speed just over 14mb.. Which is Faaaast! And £24.99 a month ain't bad... Been down once for a couple of hours in 2 years, when they were changing cards at the exchange..

My line will apparently only support 1.5 Mb :(

I'm paying for an 'up to 8 Mb' service, it's been 'optimising' (or whatever the technical term is) for nearly a week now and the router says the line speed is 2.7 Mb at present.

Have been happy with BT for the several years I've had ADSL at various addresses.
