Evening John welcome to the forum.

Replace in pairs, use proper Merc springs and get an Independent Merc Specialist to do it.

The spring compressor you need is not for the faint hearted.

Hi john -

Another Hello to the forum :)

Cracked springs are getting more and more common - over the winter the RAC reported it was its 2nd fastest growing issue, behind car battery failure!

There has been lots of talk about the compressor required, and its apparently a mammoth of a job, however if you need any parts feel free to give us a shout :)

With the correct internal plate type spring compressor its an easy job--- without it quite hazardous. the compressors are not cheap to purchase[ they need to be very strong well engineered products to deal with the forces involved] so best left to a specialist who have invested in one.ps vid doesn't seem to start --just move the cursor on the bottom on slightly to start it running

Welcome to the forum, 2nd to the advice about the Indie, as not a diy job the spring compressor needed is huge.
Get the indie to get original parts , but have a look first to tell him the colour code on the springs to make sure that you get the right ones fitted.
If you put your location on your id someone will be able to give you a good indie near you.

thanks for your quick response guys , dont think i,ll be tackling the new springs myself after watching the video ,it started fine by the way ,will post some news when the jobs done , thanks again

A machanic at the garage my father worked at had an accident where the spring compressor somehow came off the spring while under tension and hit him in the face, after many operations and loosing one eye he was never the same again.
LEAVE THIS JOB TO THE SPECIALIST !!!
