Hi Guys,

I'm getting an occasional smell of burnt oil through the airvents. It seems to be just after the car warms up. Wondering if this is a common problem, and if anybody can give me any guidance?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what car this is on , but may be an idea to look at your engine towards yiur exhaust to see if yiu can see any sign of leakage near it ..

On other, older cars I have had, this has been a sign of blocked crankcase breather pipe. On a newer car, I would say it was a matter of looking for a weeping gasket/oil seal in a position on the engine, as gl boy says, near to the exhaust. Keep in mind that as well as dripping, it could spray in a fine mist.

I was wondering about breather pipes. Will get them checked! Thanks.

ive read about Oil seals/ O rings leaking in/around the turbo air intake side of things on the v6

Black death would be my guess, if this is a diesel. With the engine cover off and the engine running, look / listen for the chuffing of gases escaping around the injectors, with black tar-like deposits if it's been doing it for a while.

If you've caught it early, it's not as bad as the name suggests. Have a search on here for advice.

I had this on a W210 E55. The cause was a slight oil weep where the oil filler cap gasket had compressed, and the oil was (eventually) making its way down to the exhaust manifold. Check to see if there is an oily mess around the filler cap.
