A **** heap
Hi guy and gals

been looking about for an ML500, are there any things that i should look for before in buy?

Hello

What model 163 / 4 ?

Go for the Inspiration model if a 163 :)

Fuel will be bad but then if your buying you know this, thats why I went for the 350. I had a friend with the 500 and the trip computer read anywhere between 11 and 14 round town :)

Makes mine look frugal

OOh and if you can get the 7 seater even if you don't need them, I've taken mine out but appartenty easier to sell with them.

:)

It is a great engine and very addictive.

Generally the later ML's seem very good and the prices of petrol models are very reasonable.

If its a W164, then Richard has one and its fantastic.

The money you save on buying the petrol version with a huge discount, takes years to make up for not buying a diesel. Its actually far more cost effective to buy the petrol one as initial outlay is a lot less.

Great cars, great engine.

If its a W163 then the same applies but to a lesser extent as residuals will be narrower as they are older now.

If you are buying used then you can really haggle for a bargain as they are very hard to sell these days:(

What Alfie say on the difference in fuel is so true,, for me the cost of running a 500 over the 320 is about £220 per year, yet I have known folk change their car and spend £10k to save £2 a week

the one i was looking at is a 2002 model - so i guess this is the better models to go for, i dont really like the models without the indicator in the mirrors :S

The ML500 was never offered in pre W163 facelift. That was the ML430.

Okay, so if its a W163, then it will be a facelifted one which is a lot better than the pre-facelifted one. Make sure it has as many extras as possible. Parking sensors and seven seats are desireable. I think all ML500's had the lux pack which consists of memory leather seats and wood trim. Comand is easily retrofitted if not already present. CD changer is nice to have.

I had an ML320 2002 model with full AMG kit/wheels etc literally every toy possible except comand and seven seats. Guess which two options I wanted the most! Great car. Would have loved the 500 myself.

Nice spec.

Check the installation of the DVd player. This was not a Mercedes option.

good spec... I sold one to a chap from France. It was a lovely car and an absolute hoot to drive... but yes expect 15mpg..

It is very temping - as they are offering £7000 T/In for my current CLK, i guess looking around at other CLKs of my spec this seems a fair price, unless i sold it private.

7K is sounds good as...

They have a Gas guzzeling 4*4 high tax blah blah blah.. which has a limited market and summer is meant to be coming...

You have a Convertible, sensible sized engine much easier to shift.

At the end of the day its the price to change.

this is what i am thinking :)

I test drove a 500 before buying the 350. I was actually a bit disappointed at the quiteness of the V8 - I wanted to hear the rumble, but found the 350 to sound more dramatic instead. Plus, I watched the needle drop and the fuel light come on...that scared me!

Most M-B 500s are very quiet. My SL was almost silent, even with the hood down it was mostly induction/mechanical noise when you put your foot down. Hence the exhaust mods.

maybe swayed to an ML55 also :D

Make that shares in BP, Shell, Esso for a 55:eek:
