Buying new Mercedes for first time - Tips/Advice?

Have you seen all the threads on here about fire opal paint ? Loads of full resprays due to issues with that particular paint. Am sure others with direct experience will comment here.

Mine did that too, but not the actual door shuts, as that's a doors off job, they'd have had to remove the wiring loom, etc.

You can't see or feel any 'lip' at the edges, and the paint on the sealed off inner parts when you open the door is still perfect from the factory as whatever causes the peeling lacquer hasn't touched those parts.

Not that many of you are around my way, but if you are, you're welcome to come and inspect their work on my car, especially if you're using the same bodyshop.

It's didn't really look like it needed any paint work but the MB salesman mentioned straight away that MB have authorised a full re-spray to be completed by MB because it didn't meet their minimum standards. Apparently MB are paying for it not the dealership.....but he was looking himself for any lacquer/paint issues to point out why they are re-spraying it but couldn't find any specific areas.

I am guessing because it's getting a new full re-spray there won't be a future issue with this colour as the past issue would have been corrected?

Done deal! Went for 3 years PCP with a high deposit of £6500 to keep the monthly payments down to £166, and a £5000 balloon payment. Planning to keep the car at the end anyway so all the deals/options were pretty similar.

Just waiting for the full re-spray now, any tips/advice on what I should look out for after it's done to make sure everything is OK?

Received a call from MB Stevenage last Friday informing me car went in the day before for the full re-spray. Followed up this week and told me it should be ready at the end of next week - excited to pick it up! Good experience as well at MB Stevenage so far. Nothing really exceptional but nothing to criticise either.

Still waiting for any finance documents through the post...I filled in all the forms in person (wasn't asked for driving license though!) in the dealership two weeks ago now so would expect to receive something soon.

Can't wait to sell my current car as well. Hassle of taking some calls so far has been frustrating and makes me think I should have P/X it with MB for the sake of £500-£1000. Had a guy call me and the first thing he said was that he spoke to someone and he said if "xyz" part fails/breaks on this model it will cost him thousands to replace so he needs to get that replaced so straight away that's £300 off the price:doh:

When you sell a car you get a lot of calls from t1ts. He's just your first...

our slk went back a couple of weeks ago at the end of an agility lease. before it went back i gave it a good clean and noticed a large number of small tar spots. took these off with t-cut which then left some dull patches. cleaned the car again & gave it a coat of wax.
then with the high shine noticed the micro blisters on the boot. the following day in a different light saw them on the side panels & bonnet.
fire opal red is a big problem for mb
