I was just going into a small roundabout at about 10mph and the engine just died, as though it stalled. Which is something I have never seen on an automatic. It didn't sputter or jolt. Re-started the car and it seems fine.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks

I had this happen when my MAF started to fail, had to buy a new one

Thanks for that. Is there a way of testing the MAF? Would it give an error code?

Error codes can be read with suitable diagnostic code readers or if you can, get it on a star diagnostic.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using MBClub UK

I have an OBD reader, so will see if that comes up with anything

Ok its stalled twice now. I'm going to try cleaning the MAF sensor before replacing it, seems simple enough. Will also see if any codes are being thrown (would have already done this but having laptop troubles)

Also for a 1.8 kompressor, it seems very slow in mid to top end speed, is there anything else I can check/clean while im at it? Maybe air filters, throttle body?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would reckon that would also be a symptom of faulty MAF.

If it is faulty can I just replace the sensor part or will the whole thing need replacing?

Also would an aftermarket maf be ok as they seem to be way cheaper than the dealers prices. Thanks

You should just have to replace the sensor itself.
It is said to be quite common.

As with all advise on this forum, its best practise to diagnose the fault with a computer to avoid wasting money on parts that are not confirmed to be at fault.

Saying that however when a MAF sensor becomes faulty it can make your car perform poorly as it will be in a limp mode of sorts. ( not displayed on instrument panel)

I personally went for a piersburg after market.

(I have a diesel)

Don't clean it, can make things worse,if its a petrol engine you need a Bosch.Don't be tempted to buy anything else as they might work for a while then fail.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a Bosch MAF?
