I noticed the other day that the horn in my C240 Sport sounded a little, er, camp ;)

Upon investigating, I noticed that the car does indeed have two horns, but the one on the passenger side was out of action. I removed it this afternoon only too hear a rattling inside and a massive amount of wet messy rusty dust fell out. (I prised it open knowing it had gone to find a massive amount of yukky rot inside, very peculiar).

Could any of you guys tell me if the horns are meant to be dual tone, or are they both the same tone? Also, what is the sort of price am I looking at for a replacement?

Thanks!

marvellous, just found the part A0045425620

However, does anyone know if the horn is dual tone?

I thought most were 2-tone. I "honked my horn" for the first time today...sounded a bit high pitched for a big car

I have been looking into the Hella replacement horns (regular, not trumpet type). The kit I have been considering is - "Hella Supertone Horn Kit. This horn is best on open interstates where you want to warn a truck that he is about to run into you."

Read the intro on this page and then scroll down to look at the different models. I am sure they are sold by someone in the UK, too. I know even Amazon.com sells them in the U.S., so you can try Amazon for the UK.

Would a W210 horn fit? My horn on my W202 is a bit lame or 'camp' as you may well say, so am looking for a replacement myself. Mine only has a single horn, but am wondering whether I can get the more 'meaty' sound by doing the dual horn mod. If this is possible that is...

I can't see why not, it only hangs off the chassis rail and has +ve and -ve blade connectors on it :) The dealership has the horn for about £17, I was just wondering if each horn made a different noise?

And aren't they meant to be speed sentive, whereby the 'camp' horn operates round town and 'fog' horn comes in at faster speeds.

It's to be polite to pedestrians.

My wife had a Fiat and true to Italian tradition, that had twin trumpet horns.

These were the loudest standard horns I have heard on any car...:D

As far as I can see, there's only a single horn on the W211 (mounted between grille and radiator).

Years ago I used to have a set of Fiamm air horns. Now they were loud.:D
